Like if you want to fly somewhere this Friday, will travel agents begin selling canceled seats today, tomorrow, Wednesday, and Thursday? The travel agents this morning on the phone all say nothing is available as soon as you say May 1st through May 5th, but I find this hard to believe with my Western perspective on things. Even domestic flights like Jeju are not for sale right now.
Are last minute flights out of Korea offered? If so, how do you go about getting in on the action? |

Nope, last minute means staying in Korea. The best thing you could do (though it's really too late for that) is to have your travel agent get you on a waiting list so you will be in line if there is a cancellation. This is especially true for holiday travel. |

What about standby for canceled seats? No, I couldn't get on any waiting lists through travel agents, they just said nothing is available.
What would you do if you had to rush home for a family emergency? Not only would like I like to a shot at going on a vacation, but it's disturbing to know that I might not get home in the event of a family death. Last minute flights are almost always available in the West, even during peak travel periods. Someone always cancels or there're are plenty of of flights. Of course we have so many airlines and flights to the point the prices are super low. During unusual peak times, flights are over booked and you're given money, voucher, or free flight to be bumped. More planes can also be brought in to fill a temporary high demand like when too many people are demanding a particular destination on a long holiday weekend.
I'm feeling kind of trapped on this rock. |

That's a very good point.
If that happened (Heaven forbid) I guess I would just show up at the airport and get the nearest airport to my home and go from there.
Just hoping that doesn't happen, especially at a peak time. |

Thanks, this is good for everyone to know about.
You can still go! Employing the help of a Korean. I got all the way to account creation, but couldn't seem to pass the process after entering all my info due to my foreign passport. The site identifies a user by national ID via their Korean passport number. I was using electronic translation by copying and pasting to read all that to get that far.
I'm getting fair price quotes such as 192,000 before tax to Tokyo and when I click through I do make it to the log in page. I just don't have anyone to help me create an account, if possible, as my English speaking co-teacher just said today she can't understand how to do travel and apologize she can't help me. You really are on your own in a PS job in the sticks, but you get lots of paid time off. You might need a Korean purchase it and you pay them.
One more question.
Can foreigners sign up for account on 072 and pay? Site looks easy to use in functionality, but account creation is another issue. |

Yes. I just tried it. You can join as a member.. it doesn't ask you for your ID number, only your passport number.. even then I didn't put it in and it's allowed me to join. |

Perhaps, you might be a bit more lucky if you called an airline rather than a travel agent. Had trouble with the flight I wanted once, but once I stopped dealing with my travel agent and did with a KAL representative, everything was fine. |
