Are coffee grinders available to buy and easy to find in Korea?

Would it be a good idea to bring one from the U.S?

Just reading the thread on coffee and people are talking about grinding coffee in blenders so it made me wonder...

They're all here -- manual, electric, kitchen-top, wall-mounted, personal-use & industrial-size. Available online and offline.

Prediction: eamo will jump on here to recommend burr over blade grinders.

I'll beat Eamo to it and say that electric blenders will ruin the taste of your beans, which is bad because for the most part, the beans you can buy here for a reasonable price will be unpalatable dreck by the time your electric grinder is done annihilating them.

I use a hand-grinder and a French press with "First Colony" organic from Costco and I get quite good results.

Sorry, I call bullshit. Have you seen and/or done a double-blind taste test to see if this is anything more than romanticism?

I've had beans blended by hand and electric--taste the same to me, and I have a HUGE stick up my ass when it comes to coffee.

This reminds me of advice I once read on another website: "when you put cologne on your wrists, don't rub them together. It will bruise the scent."

Coffee Nazis unite!

I despise Starbucks coffee from the machine (even double shots don't do it for me), but the extra bold blends aren't bad when it comes out of my plunger, but it's kind of $$. My mum is getting a little tired of sending bags from home, any recommendations for coffee available Korea?

I bought a hand grider off of gmarket, but the grains are too coarse and it's cheap junk so I use an electric blender. I have no complaints about flavor, unless I were using crappy quality coffee like Emart sells.

This is coming from the same guy that can't see image in those magic eye puzzles as well. If you think they taste the same, you probably smoke too much...killed all your taste buds, and would drink any brown water and as long as someone told you it's coffee.

My taste buds are so good I can tell you if you've ever used your deep-fryer for fish or what the "secret" ingredient to your spicy kalbi-tang is. Just because you can't taste the difference doesn't mean it's not there.

Good point--I did smoke for 8 years, but I'd still like an explanation why mechanical grinders would ruin flavor, 'cause I just don't see how it's physically possible.

The difference isn't between hand and electric grinders; rather, it's between blade and burr grinders.

Blades don't grind--they chop. This produces an inconsistent result and can't really be adjusted (for espresso->press grind fineness).
