| East Sea is a Koreaocentric way of calling it. It means 'East of Korea'. |
And what does Sea of Japan mean?
Did you read what I wrote about the Yellow Sea actually being the Golden Sea? |

Huh? WTF are you talking about?
Look at a globe. The East Sea is east of pretty much the entire world. It doesnt depend on any perspective. You just dont want to see it because it would nullify your little argument. |

Then any sea of body of water in this area of the world would qualify, right? Why not rename the South China Sea, or the Yellow Sea to the East Sea? They're also east of most of the world, as you say. Why that particular sea?
Also, since 'Sea of Japan' is an English term (I don't care what it's called in other languages, I am speaking about the English language here). Where do the majority of native English speakers live? North America. It's west of North America.
황 doesn't mean gold. It doesn't mean yellow, either. It's a shade of yellowish/brownish/goldish hue. It can't be explained very well in English. But the term 'Yellow Sea' came from a partially inaccurate translation of the Chinese characters for that body of water.

Yeah, right, and whenever you heard anyone in North America mention the "Far East" you always corrected them that it should really be the "Far West", didn't you?
Like **** you did. |

黃角 황각
(1) 청각(靑角)의 하나. 청각과 같으나 빛깔이 누름
A golden yellow of sunshine/sun rays.
A sulpheric color also. As in 황사.
황천: Hades, Erebus, the land of Shades.
황옥: Topaz
황혼: Dusk's twilight
I don't see how/why the translation stopped at yellow, or, even started with it. It should have emphasized the golden part first and foremost, since most meanings and usage of it revolve around gems and natural wonders. At the very last while totally and completely lost for anything of an accurate translation it would have been made, 'yellow.'
I still stand in my argument that the original translators did so out of that same mode, with 'yellow' typifying everything oriental.

I've shown that it can.
............................
PS: 황금률: The golden rule.
According to the your original Yellow Sea translation model, we should actually call this the 'yellow-gold rule.'
PPS: Now is a good time to introduce a name change to the place anyway. I suggest 동해 for the East and 똥해 for the West, because that's the real color of it now. |

| Google Earth labels it as both "East Sea" and "Sea of Japan", each name being closer to its respective country. Problem solved. Now which one is Dokdo in? |

황금 and 황 are not the same. Adding the word 금 changes the meaning.
There is no east and west in this world. The world is round. Unless you're part of the Flat Earth Society.
The whole idea of Asia being the east comes from Eurocentric ideas. What a coincidence that the 0 degree Meridian line is in Greenwich, England.
Vietnam also calls the sea east of themselves 'East Sea'. |

Which is why I think we should go back to calling the far east "The Orient". |

황색(黃色) yellow;a yellow color
황색 신문(黃色新聞) a yellow paper[journal];the yellow press《총칭》
황색 인종(黃色人種) Mongoloid;the Mongolian race;the yellow race(차별적);【아시아인】Asians
My source about 황 meaning brownish/yellow comes from Korean people telling me that. |

About Us
Who We Are
We are a group of private individuals ranging from Students to Professionals from various parts of the world concerned about the rising nationalism in South Korea and how it is being abused by the South Korean government to baselessly attack anything and everything Japanese in order to distract from it's own faults. We are speaking up for what we believe in because we believe it is the right thing to do.
Who We Aren't
We are not Japanese nor are we in any way associated with the Japanese government, or any other group, public or private, that stands to gain or lose in any way by the publishing of this web site. We do not have anything against or hate Korea or Koreans. However find it rather sad that we have to explicitly say so because so many young Koreans today place their entire sense of self-pride on Korea's image to the point that for fear of our lives and the lives of our family we have to place such a disclaimer on this webpage. |

I demand that the world change the English name Korea Bay and Korea Strait!
Well...not really. Most individuals or countries are more mature about such things. Others engage in petty revenge. |
