has anyone brought their desktop computer with them to korea? and was there any problems with airport or customs? i plan on bringing my gaming desktop there and even bought a new small form factor case for it so that it would fit in my carry on bag (i plan on buying a new lcd there). i dont really know how customs or baggage checking works and i dont want them to confiscate it for any reason...if they do that at all. |

You can use a notebook on the plane, but you'll be the first to ask for a power socket for a desktop! |

God only knows what security would think of it. Couldn't you whip out the video card as a weapon? [/sarcasm]
I imagine since they let laptops go through, it'd be fine. As long as it's the right size. |

I did something similar. However, I just gutted the computer and brought the essential components I needed (hard drive, RAM, CPU, Mobo, vid card). When I got here, I bought a case, power supply, and cheap keyboard/mouse/speakers. Works great. |

I once took an 20" imac on to a place as hand luggage, no problem at all. I must admit to having sleepless nights leading up to it though, I was dreading being told I had to check it... |

I've been seeing desktops so small it'll fit in a briefcase like a laptop, but slightly thicker. Yes, you can carry if you got a compact tower. It's a sorry scene for using desktops and robots inflight though as the inflight power grid is lacking in peasant class. You might be able to go to the lavatory since they're 110v American style plug ins available to do your ditty if it's a pressing issue to calculate the weight average cost of capital in Excel or play a classic video game on your desktop. |

When I came through I had a single carry on that was nothing but electronics in addition to my laptop. They asked me to open it to have a peak, but that was about it.
I had:
an external hard drive
skype phone + base station
Wii
all my wii controllers
electronic dictionary (fairly big, like an old school pda)
half a dozen adapters for them
my digital camera
my digital video camera
several spare batteries
a small form factor wireless router
and a few other odds and ends.
if that goes through a small form factor desktop should have no issue. |

I did the same thing when I moved to Thailand from here, and killed a couple of parts in the process. After that, I started just packing it in the case box and wrapping the box in bubble wrap, then checking it. Haven't had any problems doing it that way. |
