|
|
Is there something different about Mosquitos in this country? I was bitten about 10 times in a span of 5 minutes last evening. The bites are nasty, big and plumpy with a nice blood filled center. I was pretty much swollen for a good 4 hours. Has anybody else experienced this scenario?
Also, mosquitos transmit yellow fever. A possible explanation for the recent increase in blood flow to my nether regions. |

As some posters will tell you here, mosquitoes are just one in a long line of crimes against humanity that Korea has committed. There is a secret laboratory where ajosshis have developed a mosquito transmitted disease that targets only waygooks.
I'm partially kidding, but getting in before the inevitable crap that every thread tuns into...
in all seriousness yes, I've noticed that mosquito bites seem to last a lot longer around here. They don't seem to itch to any greater degree. I didn't get any blood filled centers though.. you should consider lancing those.. |

mossies here don't like me too much. In the past i have always slept next to a korean, they got bit, but I was left alone. I have always put it down to the fact that mossies here are racist. this is going to be my first summer without a korean, I'm a little worried. That or the combination of sweat, garlic, soju and vegemite keeps them away |

Even if this thread happened to turn into an 'I hate Korea' fest nobody likes a told you so.
On the flip side I hear that at minus 49 degrees Celsius you don't have a mosquito problem?! |

The mosquitoes in Korea are relentless. They are quite crafty and can penetrate even the most heavily fortified apartments. Their constant buzzing is a serious irritant. Nonetheless, they aren't going to kill you. I use mosquito coils to keep them at bay. During the summer I just go on a killing frenzy every evening when I get home!
As for yellow fever, most of us guys suffer from it in one way or another over here in Asia. The symptoms of yellow fever seem to intensify during the summer months when mini-skirts and increased amounts of flesh begin to appear on the native female population. In all seriousness, you aren't in the right country to get yellow fever from a mosquito. |

Yes, we should turn the other cheek and all that.
At -49 there is no mosquito problem..there is a mosquito problem when the temperature goes back up to +30 in the summer.
much worse near water. I'm a little surprised at the areas of Seoul which have mosquitoes and are not near the water. In Canada I was only about 6 blocks from the river which went through downtown. Beside the river there were lots of mosquitoes, but even 6 blocks away nothing. The Korean mosquitoes seem to be a more adventurous breed and travel further inland. |

The mosquitoes here are clever little ba$tards. They're more clever at finding holes or other ways into nets and they also hide out then swoop in to bite your arms or legs if you happen to rest against the net during the night.
You can track them for days and days until you really get to know him like a friend. He knows you're there, and you know he's there. It's a game of wits. You hate him, then you respect him, then you kill him but then some play dead only to haunt you at 4 in the morning....
The mosquitoes back home are just plain dumb compared to the ones over here..... |

They seem to get into our apartment from the drainage pipe that runs through the balcony area. Why the pipes are not put on the outside I really don't know. |

They tend to bite many more times on average compared to back home. |

I did live in a nice branded APT but the lease ran out and the city hall decided to shaft us. Now yes we live in an apt that reminds me of some eastern block European country. |

Buy a big can of insect spray and spray all your window nettings and around the door. Do this at least once a week.
Buy some moggie coils and burn them near the windows.
Don't forget the bathrooms.
And for all you tight-wads out there who won't spend 5,000 won (and you know who you are), grab some of the gingko leaves and burn them instead. Will keep the moggie's at bay (and everyone else will think you're smoking pot, fullfill the stereotype!).
