My school is having Sports Day today and I've done it before. It's like the biggest nonsense I've seen. They have all the students in formation and doing military drills. I have to do something at 11:20 so I snuck off to download The Watchmen comics and read them before I get the DVD at Yongsan this weekend.
How is your Sports Day? |

Last year I offered to hold the finish line, not realizing that there would be hundreds of races and I'd just be bending over and picking it up all day. So this year I avoided conversations about Sports Day and managed to not be assigned any tasks. So I'm sitting in my office waiting for the NHL playoffs to begin. It looks like it'll be a pretty good day. I should probably make an appearance at some point though... |

I was a bit surprised when I found out I have the day off, but judging by the comments I guess my teachers knew I'd find it rather boring. I used to love sports days at school, but ours was more like an assault course than any real sports. |

My school have sport's day too. It took them over an hour just to get through the tug of war. I went down, took some photos, and now am back in my office. I might make another appearance later, but I get to leave early so the chances are slim. |

Are they hiding you away??
Ours is today. Makes for a nice start to the spring break with many parents off-work today. |

My activity wasn't so bad I hiked up the hill behind our school to one of those covered resting spots and the parents and students came up together and got a packet of flower seeds. I live near the mountains so it was nice to get out, get some exercise and meet the parents. Plus, we had corn chowder and spaghetti for lunch |

sports day should've been called comedy day at my school bcuz some of the games were so ridiculous. i especially loved the race wehre the kids had to run to grab a piece of paper on the track that had the name of an object that they had to carry the rest of the way...seeing 11 year olds running as fast as they can while carrying a desk that probably weighs as much as they do had me borderline hysterical. |

The funniest one was the shoe kick in the dirt field. The further they kicked, the more their sock became black. |

my univ has one at the end of the month we are supposed to go to and i'm already looking to get out of it. went last year and it was in hot gymnasium out near kimpo and was so boring all we do is watch the students do mindless activities and they dress like hookers (its a womens univ). then afterwards we are supposed to go out to dinner with the president and that involves heavy drinking, again one of my least favorite activities
anybody know how to say in korean, "i strained a hamstring on my morning run?" |

Mine was great fun. I was the official starter of the races...junbu...ga! for the little ones, ready! go! for the others. I was only given a flag and a whistle (missed out on the gun) also, the white gloves they gave me were too small for my matching white uniform .
The highlight was the ajumma race when one of them hit the deck, and the ajossi race was good too, seeing a bunch of blokes way past their prime taking a one lap race on their child's big day way too seriously was a sight to behold. |

My school had a tug-of-war between a bunch of students, then one between parents and teachers. one father wisely tried to get me in the tug for his team, knowing an American football tackle would make a key asset,,, UNTIL a teacher on the other side started whining.....
My Plan B was to borrow a gimmick from REVENGE OF THE NERDS and challenge that team after the first game, get them pulling hard for a second, then drop the rope and say "You win!"
Thank goodness for the Tri-Lams! |
