Hey earth, the 2009 Comet gt250r EFI has 6 gears Wink Even the bloody sales guy at the shop didn't know it. I ended up talking to a Korean guy at the shop who does some test driving at the tracks and said the 2009 Comet has a totally different feel and a much improvement over the later models. He said he topped out at 180km/h on the 2009 Comet.
I did some research on the bike and prices before entering the shop and I'm getting a fairly good deal( 4.1mil over the sticker price 4.485mil)
Will let you know how it performs after the weekend as well as after I break in the engine ;( have to take it easy for the 1st couple of weeks

Having used a Comet 125 & 650GT as well as a Honda CB400, I'd say go for the Honda. It's probably the best all-round bike I've had, and was very reliable. The 650's torque was nice, but it vibrated like hell and didn't sound half as nice as the 400's scream.

If you want a bigger bike, why not save 1-2 mil more and get a Jap 600?

Good luck on your purchase!

With pretty minimal mods the Comet can hit 180. It's a bit of a struggle near the end and it's about redlined, but they can do it(although many bikes out there are not tuned up enough to do this...they need to be in really good shape).

I find they can hit 120 with ease, and are OK up to 150. Above that they are sluggish. They can be run at 100km/h all day but they don't have the jam of bigger bikes. Very usuable power though, fast enough for getting ahead of traffic but sometimes a little sluggish for getting out of tight spots when at higher speeds. Not thrilling speed but fun as. The Cb has a little more fun factor but still not of the holy crap kind. She goes fast as feck but does not make you feel like your nuts are trying to crawl up inside you when you accelerate. They are both kind of safe in that you can't over throttle in a turn and kick your back tire out. The 250 lacks some emergency passing gusto though. If you've screwed up the four will make a quick getaway (if you're in the right gear) while the 250 kinda needs to think about it.
