Just a question, opinion, or whatever...
I have been home (NZ) since November after my one year in Korea and have been on a 2 week holiday in Australia too, only to be told the day I got back from Oz that Korean Immigration think I am still in Korea and therefore I couldn't get an E2 visa for the new job I am due to start in a week - has this happened to anyone else?
I handed in my alien card and did EVERYTHING right when I left but still I am getting dicked around. Even after I scanned copies of my passport to show I had been in Australia they raided my new prospective employer and told them I am now on a "list" that means every school I apply for will be investigated, meaning that now they are hesitant to employ me (and actually can't for 3 months because they got snapped doing private classes).
It just makes me mad that some people can flaunt the system and get away with it and I have done nothing wrong and they think I am dodgy...
Please let me know...is it worth it? |

| I am curious as to whether your first E2 visa has yet expired. Did your contract end before your visa expired? I mean did you work, then make a visa run to Japan? It is possible this may be the problem. Immigration may still have you under your first E2 visa. |

Well I only had a 10 month E2 visa that expired in December so maybe if they assumed I had a 12 month visa then that would be the case I guess because that would still be current till mid Feb. Good point.
Apparently I can't get off the blacklist for 3 months, but I am not sure whether this means I would still get employed by another school or if I can't get a visa at all, so am going to the Korean Embassy with my passport to see if they can help. |

| That is a good idea....MAYBE the embassy can help. Remember to be very polite, patient, and honest with them. |

I don't think Korean immigration issue 10 month E2 visas... your visa was probably a 12 month one.
Take your old contract along with you to the Embassy to prove that your job was only for 10 months.
As for the "list"? Who knows... it could be just something your prospective employer or recruiter fed you??? |

I was once sent on a visa run and given the wrong documents, meaning, I had to go again. When I returned after the first unfortunate trip the first thing my employer shouted was - "Why didn't you try shouting at them - you're supposed to shout at them!"
I am usually quite qiet, but a couple of years later I had to get money sent overseas thru Citi Bank. I brought all the documents they (at Citi Bank) advised, but when I got there the jerks wanted more. So, I shouted and swore blue murder at the poor guy. Didn't work though - he needed to input some more data in his computer before it would 'send' - but it sure did feel good. I didn't even know I had it in me!

They can issue a 6 month for sure! I am just finishing one, and even though I am on a 1-year contract, my school is trying to lure me into signing a suckier contract before they'll extend my E-2!
BTW, I have a 6 month one because I got busted for teaching illegally at my last hagwon, because they told me to either teach before I got my E-2 the following week, or get out of the apartment.
As for the "Blacklist"... not sure it exists. An in-Seoul Korean-speaking recruiter handled everything for me last time and I got the new E-2 visa, even after getting busted.
Then again, that same dumba@@@ lost my University Degree and won't return my phone calls, even after his coworkers say they just called him and tell him to contact me. |

I worked with a guy who got a 10 month visa in Osaka. I can't remember the details but he'd requested it and it was given. Interestingly based on this he wasn't required to get fingerprinted at immigration when we went to get ARC's while I, with my 12 month visa, was. |
