A "friend" tried to access Adult Friend Finder recently but got a warning of some sort from a government organization called KCSC. The web site is not accessable here in Korea. Why?

I guess it is OK for a married Korean guy to go out virtually anywhere for paid sex, but it is not OK for a single (or married) person/couple here in Korea to join a social networking site in order to meet other like minded people.

It may be because AFF is foreign owned and thus the police here can't get a cut of the profits? Or perhaps the government officials here don't want people around the world surfing the web and being made aware that people here have sex? Or maybe they are afraid that their women will go on the site in order to have sex with foreign men?

I can hardly go out of my apartment without seeing sex businesses and purveyors. Two large red light districts nearby, anma, HJ places, room salons, etc. But close down the AFF website? Ahhhh, the hypocracy!!

I guess your 'friend' will have to go get some the old fashioned way.

I've noticed the warning page popping up on many kinds of sites. I tried accessing some university sites and it popped up. It's popped up on YouTube before (on the int'l page, not the Korean one). It seems to have become aggressively applied ever since the gov't started talking about the real name system for online activities.

Its Lee Myun Bak and his Christianity. He and his Christian buddies also wanted to delete buddhist temples from Korean maps.

When you're engaging in a spot of one-handed web surfing, it's quite off-putting when a Police warning pops-up. It's almost enough to put you off your stroke.

I'm fairly certain Adult Friend Finder is NOT a social networking site in its strictest sense.... I mean, it's not for adults to get together and go backpacking, or play dominoes or Pinochle or anything like that.

Well, actually, I can see it being for adults playing some game involving pee and knuckles, but not as a card game..... not that there's anything wrong with that! Razz

Sites that are in English can be read by "foreigners" and Korea will be shamed in the western press.

You shouldn't have these problems with sites in Korean.

Odd, as many other porn sites (which are supposed to be illegal here) are not blocked.

Might be that there has been some controversy over the legitimacy of this site in particular (look it up on wikipedia) or that too many white guys were pickin up Korean ladies with it and the pimps didn't like this circumvention of their authority.

I remember that clearly but not sure if there's an English source out there.

Here's a source where he says "Lord, let the Buddhist temples in this country crumble down!"
http://www.atimes.com/atimes/Korea/JB01Dg01.html

He is most likely not behind any firewall up on Adult Friend Finder. It should be clear to anyone how much he likes humping Koreans in the butt.

It sucks that they block that site, but there are plenty of other sites if that's what you're looking for: Korean Friendfinder, HanLingo, UBLove, etc. I can't vouch for the latter two, but I met a great girl I ended up dating from KFF a few years ago.

Nothing odd about any of this.

This has nothing to do with stopping porn. It has everything to do with funneling money into porn that earns certain other individuals money.

Friends help friends.

It's the Korean way.

This has to do with the newly developing censorship of speech and content; not simply limiting porn. The government is seeking to take freedom of speech away from Korea and many Koreans are acknowledging this fact by protesting which canceled the 2009 HI Seoul Festival. The government is taking a hardliner stance and the Korean can't win this conflict and will have to bow down to their democracy being taken away. Sound extreme? Hardly not. Korea is changing into a new animal over night.

Surely all of
