I booked a roundtrip flight from busan to cebu in july for only $160 U.S. and am super stoked about it. My plan is to visit the island of Samar (i have friends there) and spend the last half of the week either in Boracay or just at a place closer to Cebu, like Mactan or one of the other little islands close to Cebu city.

Questions are: Should i make the extra effort for boracay, or are the beaches at Mactan island and other ones near cebu good enough?

Also, anyone know any good hostels in boracay, cebu city, and Mactan island?

A couple of female korean teachers from my school are going too, but dont want to pay to go to boracay, so thats why im considering skippin boracay with them.

info on boracay and cebu,,, just do a simple search here or scroll back a few pages.

unless you are on an unlimited budget you are not going to get to Samar and Boracay in the same week - pick one.

cheap transportation takes time and fast transportation is not cheap.

There is NO comparison between the beaches around Cebu and white beach at boracay. Cebu is crap.

I went to Cebu last year and didn't think much of it. After buying U.S. dollars with my won then getting a low exchange rate from U.S. dollars to pesos it was quite expensive.

There were no beaches close to where I was staying other than expensive Mactan.
My hotel also was quite expensive for the quality.

Thailand was much better.

It's not that hard to get to Boracay. A quick 80$ (possibly cheaper if you keep an eye out for specials) flight from Cebu and a few bucks to cross from Caticlan to the island and you're there. I'd just spend all your time there if I were you, but I'm a bum.

www.cebupacificair.com

I booked my ticket last week and got a RT from Incheon to Cebu for 130,000 with taxes.

You can still get a RT from Incheon to Cebu in late July for 270,000, which still isn't too bad. You can get a ticket from Cebu to Boracay for under 100,000.

I went to Boraccay last year...do not recommend it...the water was sludgy and there were more couple shirts there than in Korea. Furthermore, I even ended up getting into a fight with Koreans there...
Fact: their manners don't improve when they leave the Korean peninsula.

My friend just got back from Bohol a few days ago...you can take a boat from Cebu. She said it is 'national geographic'-like. The coral reefs and beaches were simple heaven.

I gave you the website above. If you don't know how to make a reservation online with a credit card, then I don't think anyone can help you.

What a crock of bull. Boracay is hailed by everyone as a great place to relax and vacation. I've been there three times and will go many more times.

So what if Koreans are there? You don't have to let them bother you.

If it were only that simple.

If I take a vacation, I am escaping from Korea. I won't go to Boracay.

Boracay is a nice place to visit at least once, but many more nicer and less expensive places to see in the Philippines. Over 7000 islands to choose from.

Lots of good info on here about Panglao (Alona beach).

Just do a simple search for Alona and you will get what you want.

Personally, I like Alona tropical when I am down at the beach (I live at the other end of the island) but there are many to choose from in all price ranges from p1200 to p10,000 per night.

..

Boracay was one of the more beautiful beaches I have been to in Asia, but also stands out as one of the more invasive/frustrating places I have been. Hawkers were relentless, pitching their products every few minutes for our entire stay. During one 10-minute walk on the main beach path I counted 48 people trying to sell me trinkets, massage, etc. People will come up to you while you are sleeping on the beach and wake you up to ask you to buy something.

On the plus side, there were many decent to good restaurants. We stayed at the biggest resort (forgot the name) and it was a great value during off-peak season. But we started spending more time around the pool and less time on the beach due to all of the annoying characters lurking about.
