Well, maybe not the whole world:
Quote:

A significant majority of Canadians are willing to risk friction with other nations in pursuit of this country's interests, according to a new survey that suggests Canada has "grown feistier" about its role in the world during this decade.

The poll of 1,600 Canadians, commissioned by the Montreal-based Association for Canadian Studies, found 67 per cent of respondents agreed with the statement: "Canada should follow its own interests even if it leads to conflict with other nations.

"This contrasts with 49 per cent in 2003 who agreed with this view," notes the study of Canadian attitudes towards the country's place on the global stage, prepared by ACS executive director Jack Jedwab.

The findings indicate Canadians have "grown feistier when it comes to defending their interests on the international front," the study states.

The latest survey, conducted in March by Lger Marketing, has a margin of error of 3.9 percentage points, 19 times out of 20.

I cut out the obligatory reference to the US.

What are Canadian interests? And how would we be "feistier" about them?

Canadians interests in the news: access and control of the Arctic, fish stocks on the west coast, oil rights on the east coast, right to not have to sell the nation's water supplies under international treaty obligations, softwood lumber dispute, etc.... Canadian international interests are about PROTECTING economic and environmental resources, a theme that resonates with Canadians

That's a pretty rosy view of the country and her people. I don't know if polling would back that up.

They'll also destroy the finances of BC, Van and will likely require a massive bailout from the Feds.

rosy?! what are you talking about? THOSE are the 'Canadian interests' in the news. It was when I was a journalist in Canada, and still is in the CBC news reports that millions of Canadians listen to, as I still do.

Canadians aren't at all interested in going overseas to start wars or spend more on the military, if that is what you're implying.

Even then,... what the heck do you mean ROSY? I just can't understand what you could possibly be thinking.

Obviously it needs to resonate harder. Direct some of that feistiness at Alberta.

I wouldn't read too much into all this.

This is almost a "motherhood" statement. I'm surprised that only 67% of respondents answered yes. I'd imagine that the Canadians who answered "no" were thinking that "conflict with other nations" meant something like "going to war".

Anyways, with the exception of "arctic sovereignty" your list is about America exclusively, which is what Canadians think of when they hear "world". The poll essentially asked Canadians "do you want to be more or less aggressive in dealing with the US". This fits with the things Canucks are saying to me recently. I've heard "it's our turn" (to be the wealthy brother) over and over again. Good luck to us.

It is a meaningless poll. We love this kinda stuff. We love "Canadians think" or "Canadians are" polls.
