I'm looking to send a few Korean comic books to a friend.
Is anyone familiar with which comic books are especially popular and which are well designed? Do you know of any especially quirky Korean comics?

"KwangSoo's Thoughts" are older, very popular comics. There are English translations available. They don't translate well and come across as seriously demented.

Here's one sans images:

Quote:
Kwangsoo's Thoughts in English - 영어로 읽는 광수 생각- 중에서

One day my mother handed me a hammer and nails.

Mother told me to hammer a nail into a tree that mother designated whenever I made a problem.
"There is no reason I can't do this!"

A long time had passed and eventually there was no more room within my reach to hammer any more.

So I was heading to a highter place even bringing a ladder to the tree to nail... Then there was my mom looking down on me from a high place in the tree with the eyes of empathy.
"Mom!"

From now on I will take out the nails in your heart. -Kwangsoo's thought-

I like Apple Comics--it's a book with awesome artwork that has a collection of many diffrent Korean artists--a new one comes out every few months.

The musical version of The Great Catsby was playing last summer at the university in Ulsan. I remember seeing posters for it around the area while Iwas living there.

I'll look for these. I didn't expect English versions to be available, and that's pretty convenient that they are.

I like "PopToon," a now monthly comic book with about 10-12 comics of various styles and genres, and with some definitely adult themes in some:

Thanks. I might pick up an edition of Poptoons for myself - I'll only need the dictionary about 70% of the time. Smile

i know it's not really korean, but i'm pretty sure every korean male who was born in the last 25 years has read Slam Dunk, haha
also, there is Derek Kirk Kim, he's a korean-american graphic novel artist, i know it's not quite the same, but i'm a big fan so i thought i'd give him a push Razz
