I've heard the internet connections are really fast in Korea, which is great.
How many won per month for an unlimited high speed internet connection?
What are the download speeds per second? Anyone know on average?
Is there ever a Download Quota in Korea? For example in Australia when I lived there we had quota's such as 60 Gig's per month. If you wanted unlimited in Oz, it was very expensive.

I don't know much about the limit, but it's fast and will cost anywhere between 30 and 40,000 won. It's very fast in both Korea and Japan.
You can download like a knife through warm butter....Some Australians and Americans use dial-up. I haven't heard of anyone using that here.
I think the internet is much better here than in the U.S. |

| I did some research online about Korean internet speeds. Some people claim they get 50-85Megs per second. That is crazy fast compared to what I get in Canada. |

Probably everywhere you can get 10Mbps lines or you can pay more and get 100Mbps. I pay around 40K for 100Mbps, only about 80 something gets through to me, but that's faster than you really need anyway.
Basically, you'll get very fast download speeds and it's as cheap as the West. |

| I pay 36kw a month for a 100Mbps connection. Best speed I've gotten was an 800meg torrent in less than four minutes. Much of that 100Mbps is likely wasted since I surf mostly sites outside of Korea that are slower here to begin with. Korean sites are blazing fast though. I watch streaming HDTV (from Korea) without a hitch. |

Megapass is almost everywhere in Korea and it's fairly cheap.
An important note is to know the difference between megabit and megabyte.
A megabyte i 8 times bigger. A 100 megabit line will be 12.5 megabytes per second. Obviously in a realistic sense this is more than you will ever need but still important to know.

I have a 10/10 megabyte per second line but it is set by Megapass to cut off if I try to upload at 1 megabyte or more per second. That part sucks but the download speed is the real deal. High definition movies in a few minutes.
Non-Korean based sites are a bit slower probably due to the number of jumps you need to take to get to the closest DNS with the proper info but it's fast enough. |

actually there are places where wireless especially is not available - like on mountains -
gangwon do is mostly very rural and mountainous - if you are thinking of accepting a job there you can stipulate your housing must have internet access (wireless is preferable of course) and DON'T take the recruiter's word for it - MAKE SURE IT'S IN WRITING ON YOUR CONTRACT but discuss it and make sure it's understood. I've been in areas there that take a couple hours getting in and out - very remote - low population - a foreigner would be extremely lonely without some kind of internet connection (unless you are really a recluse at heart).
but yeah, whatever internet is there will probably be excellent - I too have a fast connection - I usually download 4-5 films at a stretch in less than 12 hours - watching streaming video, etc. |
