Ok, so I know this is a weird request, but does anyone know if there is a Korean brand of cholesterol lowering margarine, or even an imported one and where I can buy it??

They have *I Can't Believe It's Not Butter* butter. There is a version of it that is supposedly low in cholesterol. |

Buy all of it so I never have to see that chemical spread on shelves ever again.
I second the olive oil suggestion. Eat toast with jam. |

Those products do lower LDL (good thing) and can raise HDL (good thing) but mostly in the absense of Saturated fats and transfats. Nothing works as well as reducing weight, exercizing, and eating right. Sadly, meds work better than all of these.
Dietary cholesterol has been the target of bad press historically but it has been found to have only about 10% impact on serum cholesterol. This is old information but some people don't pay attention. Cholesterol modifying spreads typically don't have cholesterol since they are not animal based. |

| Thanks people. Old tactics, I know the chemicals are bad, but due to genetics I have crazy high cholesterol even though I exercise and eat pretty well. Believe me, this is not a choice, I just wanna lower this level so I don't have to go on the drugs!! |

if you are serious about lowering cholesterol,
don't use margarine
stay away from all the bad oil in foods in Korea, including the crummy pseudo bread/pastry and delicious fried chicken
watch out for cholesterol foods such as squid, shellfish
and as suggested, use olive oil
good luck |

yes but they are very low in saturated fat which is the main problem as your liver can produce much more cholesterol from the saturated fat than what is present in the squid |

Yeah, dietary cholesterol and serum (blood) cholesterol don't correlate the way we expect them too.
Absolutely stay away from fried foods, all the crappy "breads", cookies, crackers, candies, etc.. Whole grains are good for cholesterol, so when you can, eat brown rice (hyeon mi) rather than the polished white stuff (bap). Obviously, eat fruits and vegetables for their soluble fiber and so many other reasons. I use olive oil for everything from bread to stirfrys to popcorn -- it's delicious and very good for you. If you eat that way, your body will know what to do with reasonable amounts of cholesterol and saturated fats from animal foods.
If you currently eat the way most people do, eat that way for a couple weeks, and you will almost certainly see your energy and general feeling of wellbeing sky rocket. |

If the OP is dealing with familial hypercholesterolemia then it's beyond the scope of this board. Get thee to a good MD...preferably not here. I'm losing faith in the med system here rapidly due to personal experiences and observations.
Edited for general grumpyness.

Omega three acids- The Salmon Sushi you get at the department store sushi bars. Also the blood red Tuna Sushi and Sashimi. You can also get it from Smoked Salmon and cooked Salmon steaks. If you don't like seafood you can buy the pill.I stock up on it when I go to Canada.
Brocolli- Lowers your risk of Prostate cancer
Sweet Potatoes are also good .
Pumpkins and Pumpkin soup.
Garlic and Ginger. Onions. |
