|

Just reading this, and surprised to see kimchi jigae made the 10th spot on the list. It's got a little kick to it, but considering some of the other foods on the list made from peppers much much hotter than the peppers used to make kimchi jigae, I would have guessed many other foods would have been much much hotter. (신떡, 불닭발, 등 등)
Anyhow, congrats to Korea!

If anyone is interested in the Sichuan hot pot stuff, there is an absolutely FANTASTIC restaurant in Seoul that specializes in the dish.
It's called "Bulia" and has locations in Hongdae and Gangnam. I've only been to the one in Hongdae...here are the directions:
Hongdae Station, exit 1. Make an immediate right down the side street and walk down a block and a half. There are actually two restaurants that face each other before you get to the end of the street. Either are just fine. Look for the Chinese symbol for "ee"(two horizontal lines) the second syllable in the name of the restaurant.
Order the "jeong-sheek", which comes with beef, lamb, assorted veggies, mushrooms, tofu, pumpkin, noodles, potatoes, the works.
The GF and I were there at least once a week when I lived in Hongdae. We visit at least twice a month how.
Warning: Do NOT order the "Baek-hong tang" version of the hotpot unless you feel like dabbing your poohole with bleu cheese for the next few days to cool it off. |

I would think Buldok or Bibim nameong or Nakji Bokkum would be a much better option. |

I thought this over eating red pepper stuff contributed to acid reflux and stomach cancer, but it also has qualities that surpress appetite so you don't over eat. While Korean food is not the spiciest, I need drinking water when eat red hot chili pepper foods. |

Yup. You can basically build your own meal with mushrooms, tofu, and veggies. It's a win-win place for me and my veggie friends, for sure.
Menu is in Korean, but the staff speaks passable English...I'm sure you could work it out. |

Jerk chicken isn't spicy... At least the times I've had it.
Hell yeah Chicago! Gonna have to try those wings when I get back home. |

Odd, Koreans generally acknowledge Yuk-Kye-Jang to be the hottest Korean dish. It's a soup very similar to Goulash soup. |

It's interesting to see kimchi-jigae on the top 10 spiciest list. I don't really think it belongs, but if there was a top 10 list of foods that cause diarrhea, it would surely be justified in being on that. |

ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ
I had some for lunch today and it wasn't that spicy. Granted, it does make my forehead sweat a little bit, but it's not tongue-numbing like some hot wings I've had back home. |
