I need to make a visit there today. Can someone give me directions from the subway? According to the map on KEB website, it's closer to Noksapyong station, but I read online it's actually at Itaewon station.....

Thanks!

Get out of the Itaewon subway exit on the Hamilton Hotel side and walk in the direction of KFC. Keep going and it will be close to the entrance of Itaewon on your side of the street.

I tried going there twice. What I learned was that there was no one there that could speak English to help me set up an internet account. I actually went to the large one in Myung Dong and found them to be more helpful. Kinda surprising since the one in Itaewon is supposed to be for foreigners according to their website.

Yeah...I thought the one in Itaewon specializes in expat banking. Anyone else having problems getting help in English at the Itaewon branch? That's the SPECIFIC reason I'm going there today. I'm taking 3 hours off of school to make the trek. I'll be pissed if no one there speaks English.....

I went a couple of years ago and there was a bitchy clerk that could speak well. I think it is kind of a standard policy that they have someone who can speak (reasonable) English in the exchange/remittance dept. of each branch

I've been dealing with rude, incompetent cs all week. I've been at 2 different banks this past week. I need to get a lot done today....

Should I just head to the Kangnam one instead? It'll take longer, but if that means guaranteed help in English in a decent manner then I'll do it....

I'm not accusing you of being rude, but keep in mind that your attitiude generally dictates how you are treated by customer service employees.

Since leaving Hana Bank and joining KEB I have had nothing but excellent help at the Itaewon KEB branch. I'm not sure who you have been talking with there, but I've spoken with at least 4 employees and they have all been wonderful. I'd try again.

Which one in Gangnam? I read on here that the one by Yeoksam Station had good English speakers at it but I found that to not be the case. They even messed up 2 different things I wanted them to do for me, requiring a return trip.

That being said, I think banking with KEB is best here...

That's been my experience as well- it's the only bank that's given me an Int'l ATM card that works abroad. KB*, Woori, even Standard Chartered wouldn't give me on, citing regulations making it illegal. Either KEB is breaking the law, or there's no such law.

I went to the Itaewon branch last week and they were incredibly helpful. I had initially set up my account at another branch and they gave me the most basic of accounts and no international debit card. Went to the Itaewon branch and they gave me an international debit card, internet banking, my bills paid automatically and offered me a credit card. The branch is above Burger King.

There isn't. It's just the bank's predjudice.

Well, it certainly sounds like it Rolling Eyes Don't judge anyone you haven't even met.

Let me tell you my experiences then and you can be the judge..

1) Went to Woori bank. The rep didn't speak English. She called some number and the I told the rep on the phone I wanted to send X amount of money home. She then talked to the other rep. Other rep didn't say anything else to me after that. Whole process took 1.5 hours and so was longer than I expected. Had to run back to school for classes and neglected to look at my receipt. Turns out said rep sent twice the amount I wanted. The next day involved me going back and waiting another 1 hour to get it straighted out. No apologies, nothing. Fine, whatever

2) Went to Nonghyup to send money through western union. The rep there asked me dozens of inappropriate questions regarding my ethnicity. Spent 3 hours there. After all the paperwork was finished, he then tells me I can't send money through western union if it's to a company. Would have been nice to have been told that while I was filling out my paperwork. THEN, he had to cancel the transaction and tells me I would lose a lot of money due to the exchange rate AND the western union fees. I asked why..since the money didn't go anywhere...and it was never processed. His English wasn't great enough to explain to me and I was too stressed by it and said fine.

Being the decent person that I am, I still felt bad for being there for 3 hours and holding back the line. I bought the rep fruits and drinks. yeah, I'm really rude... Rolling Eyes

Try not to get too emotional. I thought your issue was with KEB, not Woori or Nonghyup.

Anyway, all I really wanted to add to this thread was that I and many others I know have had nothing but good experiences with Itaewon KEB. I guess I would just chalk up your experiences there to bad luck. I stick by my first reply. Try them again.

Best of luck to you and I apologize that you felt I was accusing you of being rude.

did you get a seperate card just from intl transactions? I went to my KEB and they had me fill out a form and then said my regular card can now work in intl atm machines. But everytime I stick it in into the regular atm's @ KEB here, it constantly reminds me that my card is only for domestic transactions. I asked again on a seperate visit and the lady again confirmed that it should work abroad..

ah besides that, how much are the fees for using it abroad? I just came back from Taiwan and noticed my Wachovia card is now charging a 3% fee ontop of 2$ per atm use >< what happened to the nice 1% fee ;_;
