I just found heard from my co teacher that there will be another GEPIK orientation between June 9th and 12th. My co teacher couldn't tell me anything other than I will be going.
Anyone else here anything about this orientation?

Blade.

I've also heard rumblings on this 2nd orientation. I just got here at the end of February and didn't make the cut for the last. I'm supposed to be getting some more info from my co-teacher a bit later, so I'll post if I do.

Folks coming in in August will have an orientation around late September I believe.

They usually have 2 per year in GEPIK. I think they're adding an extra because they're really behind with the elementary teachers.

This would be nice. I started my contract on April 6 and apparently missed some orientation/social event by a week or so.

I'll ask my co-teacher if she knows anything about this.

It appears they are doing another orientation for GEPIK teachers during 2 different weeks:

Elementary teachers - June 9-12
Middle/High School teachers - June 16-19

Looks like my husband and I are signed up to go; different weeks, of course, but at least we finally get to go...

This is what my co-teacher just told me. She said she didn't know a location yet though.

I'm looking forward to it. Almost a whole week off from lessons.

Why so bitter?

I found the GEPIK orientation enjoyable. While there were a few sessions that I went to that could have used some work, I looked at it as more of a bonding experience. All of us could share our experiences and it really put things in perspective for me. I also met some of my (now) closest friends there.

You'll be able to have some social evenings as well - it'll be a good time. Just go into it with a positive attitude. I wish I could go to a second one! Very Happy

Why is that? For a lot of people on this site it's like SK pisses in their (stick) coffee every morning.

I don't think that his comment was that bitter. For some people - like those of us who've already lived and worked in Korea for well over five years - these "orientations" have less value.

And as an older guy (almost 60) who's vegetarian and doesn't drink, I don't relish the prospect of having to share a room with carnivorous party animals.
