|

| If I'm only getting some kwap like 9kbs or 30kbs on a particular download, can I force it to speed up by doing something? I want to get 1 megabyte or more per speed since I have 100MB internet and want it NOW instead of 2 days later of continuously letting Utorrent run. Even 300kps would be quite good for a particular HD movie I'm trying to get. I've Googled and optimized my Utorrent settings and do get up to 1 megabyte per second on some torrents, but others are slow to come. |

Honestly, you are at the mercy of the uploader. That being said, in my experience, private trackers are usually faster..
reasons
1. users don't cap their upload
2. many users have seed boxes.
Anyway, what sort of stuff are you trying to download.. and from where? (please dont say mini nova or the like) |

| You're getting it FROM OTHER PEOPLE. If they don't want to give it to you quickly, you won't get it quickly. |

| I see, it's not a website dishing out TV show torrents, it's individual computers seeding it through Utorrent. Where do you find private trackers? What's wrong with mininova? Seems to be a lot available on the mininova. |

If you choose to download torrents that have high seed to peer ratios, then speeds will be faster.
However, if there are extremely high seeds AND peers, the swarm may be too large and slow the speeds anyway as a lot of peers will be choked.
Mininova has a court case pending, and is now filtering it's torrents for copyright infringement. It's pretty well finished.
uTorrent is only one of the many BitTorrent clients a user can choose from.
Private trackers are those that require membership, such as Demonoid. If you promise to be a good little robot over there, i will give you an invite. |

Look at the number of seeders per torrent. if it's low then it will be slow.
Also, look at when the torrent was uploaded; if it's old it will be slow. |

At the end of the day, there is no guarantee that you can get a certain speed from any given torrent. If you are downloading from one person in Romania who is on dial up, you gonna get crappy speeds.
If you optimize all your settings correctly, there isn't much more you can do. The last step is to use private sites where there are more seeds with more bandwidth available. However, you're unlikely to get any invites on an open forum like this. My advice is to start with demonoid, get your ratio up, then ask around the forums there for invites to sites you may find useful. |

If you really want fast speeds, try Usenet. It costs at least $10 a month for good service... I personally paid $30/ month for premium service and got like 100 HD 1080p movies in a few weeks. I have a 54mbps connection so I'm sure you'd hit higher speeds.
If you're interested and don't want to do the research, I'd be willing to explain it to you. Just send me a PM. If not, I'm too lazy to write it out here. |
