At least that was one of his campaign promises, if elected. Anyone know if he has done it yet? Why aren't Koreans up in arms over this? Talk about a lack of integrity!!?!

Lee has been donating his pay to charity (By Ser Myo-ja, Joongang Daily)
December 12, 2008

Quote:
President Lee Myung-bak has been quietly donating his salary to charity since he took office in February, a Blue House official said yesterday.

"Lee has contributed his presidential salary to children who have to skip lunch, children with hearing disabilities, children with no parents, senior citizens living alone and [North Korean] defectors every month," the official said.

The presidential salary is about 14 million won a month ($10,304); donations over nine months amount to some 120 million won, the source added.

The donations are used to purchase rice for needy children and medical help for children with cancer or disabilities. Assistance also went to orphans, the elderly and defectors.

While mayor of Seoul, Lee contributed his salary to scholarships for children of street cleaners and garbage collectors.

Yes, lunch money for some poor kids is nice but he promised to donate his entire, huge personal fortune (except for his house) if elected. I was just wondering how that plan is coming along now that he is well into his nonrenewable five year term of office.

This thread happened a year or so ago - so I"m not sure why it's happening again. My understanding was that he didn't say he was going to give away his "entire fortune," but rather his presidential salary.

He donates his salary and lives off his "other" earnings. Things get done in Korea by greasing the wheels of those with power.

Holy crap! That's all he makes as president? I'm sure there are some ESL teachers that make close to that.

The important thing is the GNP is in power at Chung Wa Dae. South Korea couldn't survive any more of the appeasement policies of President Noh and the Kim Dae-Jung.

Churchill said it best: "An appeaser is one who feeds a crocodilehoping it will eat him last."

I'll ask again - did he give a deadline for that?

I know which thread you are talking about. Its the one below.

As you can see, it was started by the same OP. It seems that the OP is very interested in 2MB's money...

No, I am interested in many other things also. My interest here, however, is pointing out the lack of integrity of Koreans, particularly the president. My recent post was just to remind everyone of his promise, made while campaigning.

As far as I know there was no deadline, but his time is running out. If he does donate his fortune (except for his house) to the Korean people (as promised) by the end of his term, then you can tell me that I was wrong and I will apologize.

My money is on him not displaying integrity by following through on his promise to the Korean people. Time will tell!

I feel the same way about Obama. "95% of all Americans will receive a tax cut." Yeah right.

No integrity in the American presidency either.

I'm hoping this is a joke. You linked to an article that's from 3 months before he became president.

Does anyone have an actual quote from him to suppor this? Or is this a case of "if I repeat it enough, it becomes true?"

He's not even half way through his term. What are you talking about, 'time is running out'??
