This thread has libel suit waiting to happen written all over it. If the search engine is working it shouldn't be hard to read up on the quality of at least one of the teachers they've hired in the past.

Christopher Paul neil used to teach at Gwangju Foreign school

Just Google the school, and you will find all the newspaper reports about Christopher Paul Neil and his association with the school.

Sad state of affairs, but CPN's name will be forever associated with the school. An eternal stigma.

And how did the school know about that individual's crimes before the rest of the world did?

If certain schools were to conduct thorough reference checks on certain teachers they would likely not accept said teachers based on their work history, if nothing else, if they had high enough standards. That said, sometimes it is impossible to tell.

Another HUGE item of concern is how certain schools deal with certain problems after the fact. If, for instance, they have a teacher who gets convicted of crimes against children, do they make sure the children with whom he / she worked get counseling from professionals? Do they assure the parents that everything has been done to investigate whether any similar crimes occurred at their school? If I were a parent I'd also feel very uneasy about sending a child to a school that didn't even make a public statement about such a thing occurring to a teacher who worked there.

Wasn't there some Education Minister griping about NETs/FTs not having enough affection for students?

And they wonder why?

Right, it was impossible to tell until the moron-in-question flaunted his criminal activity.

Do you know for a fact that none of that has happened? Do you know for a fact that the law enforcement agencies did not investigate?

I know for a fact there was no statement to the press in a certain case.

I also quite strongly suspect that if a certain school had certain standards and had conducted certain employment background checks, a certain teacher would not have met a very high standard.

Apart from the 3 to 4 better International schools , the others take whomever they can get. Certified or uncertified. Certification of course is no guarantee that a person is going to be a good teacher, but it is one of the guidlines a bonafide international school should follow.

They have problems with there teachers at Gwangju foreign school at times, and a lot of them could have been averted if they were more professional and not so cheap. They also have some excellent teachers.

Christopher Paul Neil recieved his offer to teach at Gwangju Foreign school without an interview. Not even a phone call. He thought it was rather strange. They hire a lot of their teachers on that basis, because they don't offer the benefit packages that the better International schools offer. They have to take whomever they can get, just like many of the other International schools in Korea. He also only recieved a 1 year contract, and no one gets that. They either get an 18 month contract or a 2 year contract. Principal at the time couldn't believe it when he heard about it, so the Holleys (the owners) must have picked up on something.

The school did hire teachers through the Princeton Review Employment agency for one year contracts. That's an agency that finds employment for new graduates for a year before they decide to to either work or continue studing for a higher degree. they were the only ones who recieved 1 year contracts. everyone else were given longer contracts.

Many of the parents were quite shocked over the episode, and Mrs Holley had to spend a lot of time on the telephone consoling them.

Hello world. This is Gwangju Foreign School. We had a paedophile here who committed no known crimes. Please lay the press hysteria of the world at our doorstep and bankrupt us a.s.a.p. Thanks and have a nice day.

If I was Holly, I wouldn't do that either.

Gwangju School would consider most of us to be teachers and consider employing us, although we are not "Teachers". That's not all bad, is it?

So Gwangju Foreign school doesn't require certification of it's teachers. That's a lucky break for anyone who want's to get into the International school scene. Are there many teachers at the school who are doing online education degrees with the intention of eventually moving on to another school.

Like the previous poster said, the school has to take you uncertified teachers, because it can't get anyone else.

I was reading about the guy accused of pedophilia, and it seems that that wasn't necessarily his orientation. He apparently also liked girls, and pedophiles don't like girls. No known didling around with kids in Korea as well.

Oh well.

I think maybe the poster ment that he liked women and pedophiles don't like women. I seem to have seen a reference to that somewhere. Correct me if I'm wrong.
