I'm looking to buy a used bike. I know Korea doesn't have much of a used goods market (everyone wants new), but there must be a place where the Korean guys who buy far nicer bikes than they need (e.g. casual riders spending $2000 on a mountain bike) can get rid of them.
Does anyone know of a bike shop that has non-junky used bikes? Thanks in advance. |

Wow, thanks for the info. Do you happen to know where the Yongsan MTB shop is? In or near the electronics market? |

As far as I have come into contact with any used second hand material, I must say that the prices sure don't reflect that they are second hand.
I believe that those who do sell need a lot of money and try to sell as expensive as possible, where those who don't just throw it away. |

It's not far from exit 6 (I think) of line 4's Samgakji Station (4호선, 삼각지역).
Fron the exit walk south towards the river and the new Yongsan station. You'll see it on your right.

Quality MTBs sell for a lot in Korea because they cost more than usual in the first place. Just like in the West, Korean mtb fanatics tend to sell their bikes simply because they've upgraded (or want to upgrade) to a flasher bike. |

I was going to say that I've never seen a bike shop selling quality used bikes in Korea but then I remembered that Yongsan MTB used to have a rack of secondhand bikes outside. |
Sadly, they don't sell used bikes anymore; a Korean friend just called and asked about it.
I went to this site, but oddly enough, I can't click on any of the bike pictures or titles for a closer look at anything; the only thing I can click on is the usernames. Any idea how I can look at the bikes?
BTW your Facebook group looks awesome! Are there any true singletrack trails in Seoul that you guys ride on, or is it all bicycle paths? Either way I'm interested in joining... |

Wow, that's like asking "Is it true that Koreans eat pickled cabbage?"
Seoul and the areas around it have heaps of great singletrack. Just check out some of the earlier photos posted up on the Facebook page. Perhaps I should add some more detail about their locations sometime.
If you're keen to get into mountain biking in Seoul the best group to contact is mtbk, which is on Yahoo groups. The BRT leaves Itaewon most Saturday mornings for trails near Bundang and in other places.
You'll need to become a member of wildbike if you want to be able to see all the biking photos, bikes for sale and so on. Normally they require a Korean ID number but if you send the ste manager a polite email he'll find some other way of making you a member. |

If you honestly want to ride the single track around here you're going to have to do better than a second hand beater. Honestly unless your budget is at least $1000 you'll be hard pressed to find anything that'll survive the mountains around Seoul.
I rode with MTBK all winter and other than me and a guy on a realllll old Trek Single Track everyone else was riding dual bouncy and boy do you need it. The stairs and rocks on the steeps will do a number on your behind.
At the very least I'd suggest a safe 3" of travel up front with a strong rear triangle - none of this super-light XC race nonsense. |

Interesting. I had no idea- I guess I've just never seen singletrack but lots of paved bike paths along rivers and sidewalks, so I figured there wasn't much off-road stuff. This has caused me to rethink buying a road bike. |
