|
|
I live in an older style apartment and as of 2 months ago a rat or something similar has taken up residence in one corner of my bedroom ceiling. It was never really a problem - could hear some scampering now and then but over the past week there seem to be more and they make a really loud chirping sound starting around 5am. There is no means of actually getting into the ceiling (no manholes unlike my previous places).
Going to have to sleep on my sofa if I cant shut them up permanently.... |

are you sure they aren't bats?
I had bats in my wall once - they were nesting in there - I kept complaining about some strange animal sounds and no one believed me until one day in the hallway one flew into a neighbor
this was in the u.s. but bats are most everywhere.
not a lot of rats here due to the huge number of feral cats but still - if they are reproducing you are in for a bad time if not taken care of soon - !! |

I had bats in the USA, too.
Sometimes they crawl in the side walls as well. They poop in there, which isn't healthy. My friend's solution was to listen for where it was and try to drive a nail through the dryboard. I'd hate a dead bat stinking-up the place, though! |

If you are sure it is rats you can get poisoned rice from the pharmacy. I had a rat in the office and it took care of him. But like other posters said is it birds? bats? squirells?
I lived in a villa several years back and got a couple nests of pigeons
in and around the roof tiles. I HATE PIGEONS! When the painters came round to paint the roof and trim we told them to pull out the nests because we were tired of the poop and the noise. Those Korean ajoshis replied with "But you can't do that! There's babies in the nests!" |

If it is bats and they are urinating in the walls or ceiling, you will smell ammonia. Bats and Guinea pigs have high concentrations of ammonia in their urine. |

Spread your urine around all parts of your house. The smell will drive the birds or rats away. |

Somehow I doubt that the cats are keeping the rats in check throughout the entire city (assuming you're talking about Seoul). Just because you don't see them, doesn't mean they aren't there. |

never said there aren't any rats -
and also never said I haven't seen any rats.
I happen to know quite a bit about animals and can assure you, there are not nearly as many rats here as one might imagine there would be considering the ample water and rice.
there are other reasons as well. over time it will change, the rats are returning slowly but surely but again, the cats keep them pretty much in check.
incidentally, feral cats also impact bird populations. |
