Planning a trip on my 100cc from Seoul to the East Sea for next weekend (I have a four day March 2nd - March 5th)
Any recommendations on good roads... currently trying to sort out a route that will keep me off the freeways - that's just not going to work on a scooter. |

Good luck on that one...
Even if you wanted, you can't ride ANY 2-wheeler on the highways (cars only)....
Keep in mind that you'll have to go up/down MANY mountains once in Kangwon..Are you sure you want to risk burning your engine out?
If you are, you have two options, depending on where you want to end up on the coast...
For the northern side, your best bet is to take route 46 from Seoul (Guri-Chuncheon-Yangu-Inje), then either 46 or 44 to the coast (46 takes you north of Seoraksan, 44 south of it), both ending up north of Yang-yang.
For the southern side, take the 6 (Guri-Yangpeong-Wonju-Hoengseon-Odesan Mountain) and that'll leave you just north of Kangreung.
I've driven both those roads (with a car) and they get pretty busy, especially during holidays, when people want to avoid the Yongdong expressway which clogs up pretty fast, especially past Wonju. The mountain drive can be fun, but that's w/a car...
Best of luck, let us know if you make it back in one piece |

Thanks for the info... I think I'll take 46 head down the coast and take 6 back.
Should be a good ride.
This guy inspired me - Korean guy flys to Virginia and drives to California and back on a scooter (same scooter i have)

Well that thread will keep me busy today at work. Thanks.
I love the idea of seeing Korea (or any country) by motorcycle. |

Awesome trip and photos!
It's great that you met up with Wan. I need to meet that guy while I'm here.
Also, desperately wanting to buy a scooter but not sure where to look. I'd like to buy from a local place that can also do repairs. Any help? |

Congrads on your journey, glad you made out alright....Seems like an awesome ride you had
If you ever go thru Chuncheon again, or just want to come by for a ride, PM me and I'll take you out for some beers...in my car or on the back of your wheels |

Had a rough day DCJames? Why so cranky?
I see no problem with what the dude did. Sheesh, some people just need to bitch about the most trivial things. |

-thrylos... awesome.
-Clockout,
Don't know where you live, but every neighborhood seems to to have a few scooter shops. I've heard there's a big scooter market near Hanam? Might be something about it in the scooter thread. I bought mine from a shop in Gangnam with just some marginal Korean.
Hope you get out there and riding soon! Best thing i've ever bought in Korea. |

Sorry to hijack the thread - great trip btw.
Can you give a link to the model scooter you rode - or at least the name of the make and model.
And do you need tags and license to ride that size scooter across Korea?
Thanks |

Sure... Honda Ruckus
http://powersports.honda.com/2008/ruckus.aspx
They are 49cc so you don't need to bother with a license or anything. Anything 50cc and up you do need have a license.
My bike is most likely a copy of the Ruckus - or a modded out Ruckus. (It's 100cc)
Most bike shops that i've been to in Seoul seem to have one or two for sale, if your looking to buy - just hit a couple up. |
