Just heard about the poker room at Walker Hill ( http://walkerhillpoker.com/ )
Has anyone else been there? What were your general impressions?
What is the rake like? Any information about their monthly KRW200k tournament? |

I play there every now and then. It runs all week, but on the weekends there are about 4 tables running - three 1~2NL tables and one 2~5NL table. The buy in on the 1~2NL is between 100k~500k, but the average buy in is usually 300k. The rake is something like 10% of the pot capped at 20,000. I've only done one tournament. The buy in is something like 220,000 and usually there are something like 50 people playing. I think the top prize usually pays out around 3.something million. If you need to know anything else, PM me. (I haven't written enough messages to PM yet) |

I can't PM yet either.
Good information though. Thanks.
Do games run on weekdays? I know that it's open but do people show up?
Do games run around the clock on weekends?
What was your general impression of the play? 300k+ buy-ins sounds like fun for a 1/2 NL.
Is there anything else to do at Walker Hill or the surrounding area? It is a long trek for me to get there. |

Wow! I haven't played NL in casinos before... is that a reasonable rake? That's pulling a ton of cash off the table! |

It is a bit high. They can do it because they are the only poker room in town. They are better than the people who ran it before. Their rake was around 20%, so they didn't last very long. |

Whiteys usually buyin for 70bb to 100bb, Gyopos and ajoshhis are, ahem, compensating for something and buyin for 150bb+.
Gyopos are generally LAGgy maniacs, ajoshhis are LAGgy calling stations who will call you down with top pair bad kicker. It's strictly Level 2 thinking around there. Say hello to variance!
The 7 Luck Casino at Millennium Hilton on Namsan and another place in COEX are opening up NLHE rooms this week, but the rake is also an insane 10%. |

10% up to a certain amount? I wonder if Seoul can support 2 card rooms if Walker Hill is only running 4 tables on weekends.
Yeah the rake at Walker Hill is absurd compared to the 10% up to $5 that is found throughout the U.S. and Canada. |

Looks like they only have the monthly KRW10 million guaranteed posted but I've heard of smaller KRW50k tournaments that run on Wednesday or something. I'll probably call up there this week and see what's going on. The tournaments are definitely a better value against the rake. |

can someone back this statement up with a website or phone number? I find it hard to believe the dinky little Millennium hilton would add poker tables... where would they go? |

I've played a couple of the 200K tourneys there, and do be honest, I've been quite disappointed.
First off, they only have 4 tables, they usually reserve 1 for the cash games, meaning there are only 3 tables for the tourneys. At 10 seats/table that means there are only 30 guys in the tourney. However, the tourneys are usually over-subscribed, say 50-60 players. This means that the first 30 guys sit down and play, and those in the queue wait for players to get knocked out to get in. Unless you are right at the front of the queue, by the time you join you've missed the low blind rounds are already feeling the pinch of being short-stacked. Not to mention you have to sit around and wait for anything up to 3 hours.
After learning this the first time, I tried to register in advance the second time, yet that wasn't possible. So the only options were to get there REALLY EARLY or be prepared to sit and wait. Last time, I got there over an hour early and was registered 30th (just made it). Another complaint is they no longer offer free food (to PLAYERS!). The first time, I was able to order a sandwich while I waited, second time round, was told that food was for cash game players only. Walker hill is alone at the top of a hill and the restaurants there are HIDEOUSLY expensive, so if you go for the tourney, don't expect to eat from when you get there 2pm (for a 3pm start) till it finishes (assuming you do well, it can be after 10pm).
Finally, the guy who runs it (A gyopo by the name of Ty or something similar) is pretty rude and abbrasive. Every time I (or anyone else it seemed) ask for something, he can't be bothered and just blows you off, he definitly makes you feel like he's doing you a favour by taking your money and offering no service. He seems to be pretty friendly to other gyopos though.
The dealers and the games themselves are pretty good. However, my experience at walkerhill is pretty poor. I like poker and if another room offering tournaments opened up, I'd support them. If I lived really close to Walkerhill, I might even go back, but living almost an hour and half away, it's just not worth going there for a sub-standard experience. |

The casino at Coex is opening up a room?? Any more info on this?
I went to the Walker Hill room once, but it's just too far for me, living in Guro. These days I just play online. Also Walker Hill wasn't a great game, compared to the games I'm familiar with in Vegas. The rake is high, some of the dealers were unprofessional imo, and the level of play was higher than an average ssnl game in Nevada. I'm not sure if there's an "English only at the table" policy, but if so it wasn't enforced. |

Poker is fully going now at the Namsan Hilton and the Coex 7 Luck. I played there the last two nights. Good mix of regulars and newbies. Some of the Walker Hill regulars were there both nights and also a lot of regular players from the Itaewon area. Lots of new faces too. Big tournament schedue set up already (more variety that Walker). The Hilton poker is being run by the same people who do Walker so everything is going smoothly. Four full tables last night until about 2am and then down to three.

random question...
i am not interested, i was talking with some friends, do you guys think the girls at the casino are available for after hours services? i was thinking since they dont get tips, maybe they get paid well that way, in western places theycan make bank on tips, so what would the draw be here? or do they just get paid well? |
