I know what you guys are thinking...yeah right...but yesterday was my payday and i was overpaid 100,000 won, pretty sure my boss doesnt know he overpaid me, actaully im sure he doesnt know. Should i tell him he overpaid me or just pretend it didnt happen? If he figures it out, which i seriously doubt he will, i doubt he would mention it to me now as it would make him look stupid in the least. |

I've been overpaid by 100,000 on my first two paychecks... and I'm keeping quiet about it. |

It's a toss up, either you enjoy the extra money or you gain massive points with your boss by telling him. Your standing with him after that will be so solid it may benifit you down the line. |

only 4 months left. NOt really any "down the line" anymore. I think i wouldnt win any points with him since he doesnt trust any of his employees anyways (cameras and mics in the classrooms) which bothers me but that's another post i guess. He has exactly been a "nice" or flexible boss, so i guess im not telling him, i deserve the extra cash, and if he's gonna make payment mistakes, then im gonna pass go and collect my $200 |

lucky you. I was reguarly underpaid for a few months, nothing much. Like 30k each time, small enough to make you feel petty when asking for it big enough to start mounting up over time. |

If your relationship with your boss isn't good then enjoy the extra money--unless he notices in which case khyber's advice sounds good. |

Why ask for our opinion on what you should do if you had already decided you weren't going to return the money in the event we suggest that course of action? |

There's a small chance that the extra 100,000 won is an income tax
refund. |

I echo these thoughts. When I renewed my contract I assumed the cost of the E2 Visa would be 60k. It was 30k. I could have kept the 30k but I returned it to the director's sister. Even though it is a small amount, I reckon that they think better of me. The naive part of me tells me that because I did that, maybe they would feel guilty about ever ripping me off. |

Am I the first person to say the morally right thing would be to give back the money? give it back or you are stealing |

Would you be quiet if you were underpaid?
Well, would you?
Then the obvious answer is to cough up and return the cash. |

It's as much theft in Korea as it is back home. Being given too much money by an employer, an ATM, etc. We once had a nurse (a nursing director) fired and prosectued at my hospital back home for keeping $250 which was an overpayment -- the fact she was telling everyone she was overpaid and she was keeping it was probably all it took to find the error.
It happens, but it's not your cash.
But what do I know ... |
