So many products in Korea are a serious rip-off.

-Cars: Usually double MSRP
-Bikes: Usually double MSRP
-Apartments: Usually 2-10 times an equivalent N.A. apartment
-Wine: 40-50% higher than Japan or USA
-Potatoes: Korea is globally most expensive
-Melons: Korea is globally most expensive
-Beef: Korea is used to be globally most expensive (thanks USDA
for fixing that)

What isn't a rip-off?

-Subway: OK this is cheap

What else?

Everything Mochi said, plus eating out at Korean restaurants and cigarettes.

Of course there are many.
Generally speaking, I find so-called "Service" goods very cheap and fast in Korea. For instance, whenever I had problems with the Internet, a repairman would come to fix on the date I called.
Service industry such as medical, law, delivery, insurance, transportation, Internet, etc. is so much cheaper when compared to N.A.
OP should have known better than to write such an all-encompassing subject title.

Delivery for food. It's cheap, it's fast, they bring plates and stoves, and then you leave it all by the door so they can come pick it up.

I thought this thread was going to be about culture - I think that would've been a REALLY interesting conversation!

Not true. I never had to pay for anything my whole life until coming to Korea. I got an X-Ray on my ankle and that cost me 100,000 won, and yes I had medical insurance.

Anyways, Korea is pretty much a rip-off for anything not Korean.

Medical insurance was cheap, around $75 a month for my wife and I. When my son was born at a university hospital and delivered by an English-speaking, U.S.-educated OBGYN, we only paid a premium of $1300.

Strange. When I broke my fingers, I had multiple X-rays done (even got to keep one set) and never paid more than 20,000 won a visit. Depends on the hospital you go to.

I think markhan should have said USA and not N.A. My fingers would have cost me over a grand, easy, back in the States.

Imported items are expensive........who duh thunk it!!!!!!!

YOU may not be paying for medical expenses in Canada but indirectly the tax payers are, and doctor's fees are outrageously higher in NA compared to Korea.

Yeah, healthcare and dental care is cheap, as is medication. That's really a big fat gold star for Korea. I had health insurance in the US, but my co-payments back were nearly as high as the cost of my entire visit to the M.D. in the Korea, and my medication was never covered, and usually cost somewhere in the triple digits. And forget about a visit to the dentist, one or two of those a year and you're in the poor house.

Oh, and birth control is CHEAP and OTC.

But I hear Cohiba. The price of food and wine is what kills me. It's unbelievable. You get tired of eating pork and chicken every night and drastically limiting your fruit and veggie selection due to rip-off rates.

Eat seasonally and buy from the local markets. Dirt cheap.

Yeah, obviously imported goods are going to be more money, but in Canada, everything is pretty much imported, but you still don't see the same effect as in Korea.
