| . Where do you come off assuming all women who wear a size 10 are overweight? |
that's just common sense, because the only other input factor that's missing is your height.
at an average women's height, at size 10, you're overweight, though it may only be slightly so if you're especially big boned and athletic and/or just have one of those body shapes.
but you're either on the cusp... or over it.
to me, 10 is the cusp, basically.. and I'm one of those guys who likes curves, except I'm old school in the definition of curves... meaning hanging cellulite is NOT a curve, except in pectoral and gluteal regions.

Are you talking about a US size 10, an Aussie size 10 or a UK size 10?
They're all different. Certainly if you think a UK size 10 is fat, you must be out of your mind. |

Double post - very, very slow internet.
Now tell me again - why are these women supposed to please YOU?
(YOU as in the collective haters on this site, rather than anyone in particular).
edit added: oh yeah - one other. She's a size 6 but over 40-yrs-old, hahaha.

By Korean standards, I am fat.
By Canadian standards, I'm just fine.
So the moral of the story is......there are no rules. |

For the record, I love women.. just not heifers |
TOS=Terms of Service. The post above does not equal TOE=Terms of Endearment. It's kind of interesting how folks use words such as heifers, but we don't have the equivalent term for males out there. Perhaps, some of the femmes out there may find it sexist. Anyway, it doesn't seem TOS friendly. Had you said, I just don't like women who are overweight and left it at that, it would have been fine, man... |

I think most guys here would agree "Korean standards" are ridiculous.
on the other hand... when I hear "Canadian standards" or "American standards".. I get REALLY suspicious
are we talking like pre 1975 standards.. before the super size me society, when people in North America still looked more or less like people?
or today's blubbery masses??? (some of whom claim that the blubber makes them ahemm.... "healthy"?) |

It doesn't make you healthy, but it also doesn't make you unhealthy. Although the body does require some fat to be at peak health. In fact, women cannot get pregnant without fat. The amounts required for good health is not so much that it would cause you to think of a person as fat.
There was a point in the history of medicine when being overweight was believe to cause a number of health problems. There were no studies that showed that to be true. It was assumed true. This became controversial, so studies were done. Study after study came back without a causal link between being overweight and diabetes or heart disease or whatever. No causal link. Many doctors still tell their patients that being overweight is bad, but that is changing. What smart well informed doctors now tell patients is to eat right and be active. The fact is a person who is overweight but is active has better core health than someone who is not overweight but is inactive.
People resist this idea because for so long we were told that being overweight is inherently bad. Doctors were just wrong as they have been about other things. How many decades did doctors insist menopause was in women's heads?
Think about it from an evolutionary standpoint. Fat is energy reserves. Humans evolved out of a world where the next meal was uncertain. Carrying fat was good. The human body has evolved to carry significant amounts of fat without it impacting health. Not 7 or 8 extra pounds but 70, 80 or more. There are many animals on this planet this is true for. But, these animals and humans were also meant to be very active. That is key.
It is true that being extremely overweight is bad. It is just as true that being extremely underweight is bad. Both will kill you. Being extremely underweight will kill you faster. In other words, thin is actually a worse health problem than fat. So why is overweight stressed here as the bigger issue? Ignorance, prejudice and hate.
Of course, if you are overweight and out of shape it tends to be more difficult to get back into shape. As far as the body is a kind of machine, more weight makes mechanical failure, such as blowing out a knee, more likely, so it can limit the exercises you can safely do.
If you think and overweight person cannot be as in good as shape as you because you are thin then do a marathon or an olympic distance triathlon. The first time I did the Chicago triathlon back when I was a ripped above average high school athlete I was humbled by all kinds of people: old people, little kids, and yes overweight people who passed me like I was a road sign.
Are we done now with the hatin'? |

Just so we're all square, yet again, this thread is not the "Are you attracted to overweight women?" or "Is being overweight in line with good health?" thread.
This is a thread for Western women to discuss body image issues as well as shopping, eating, exercise whatever in S. Korea. There may be people on this thread who DO feel insecure. The point of online communities is that, well, they're communities. This thread was intended as a means of garnering sisterly support. So many of you have lost sight of that and turned what could be a very helpful thread into a petty arguing and ranting. No one is saying you can't have an opinion; but your opinion is irrelevant to the topic. If you wish to share your opinion, create a new topic.
Now I know I'm no stranger to thread jacking, but I do it in jest and I am not so vain to continue after being continually asked to refrain. In fact, I apologize if my doing so in the past has been bothersome. We're all adults here; the only people who don't exercise restraint and self-censorship are infants and radio talk show hosts. Is that really the mindset you wish to emulate?
I'm not trying to be mistress "C U Next Tuesday," but I care about women. I care about their self image and self esteem. I don't like seeing a place intended for honest discourse becoming a place to needlessly bash others.
I kindly ask that all off-topic discussions be moved to new threads. I can't help but feel the moderators should have addressed this rather than worrying about censoring non-curse words in other posts. |

I don't like these threads about body size.
Man, no matter what your body is like, it's not your body that's important. It's how you are to other people.
I've fallen in love with the eyes many times over somewhat large women, simply because they have caring eyes. Some skinny people go around look'n like they've got a score to settle or like you owe 'em something. Some large people have eyes ablaze with death warmed up.
I'm obviously a face guy. I looove eyes. Eyes are entrance ways to the heart.
Unfortunately, when someone is having a bad day eyes can turn to ice or lazer beams when things aren't going well. |

I agree with the notion, that what's important is who you are as a person, how you treat others, your family, and if you're happy as a person no matter what your weight is. You don't deserve a prize based on looking a certain way. Sure, people look at appearances and all, but there are plenty of people who don't fit into a certain dress size who are loved and considered very beautiful. Marily Monroe was not thin, but tons of Americans thought she was so beautiful.
I also believe that the eyes are the windows to the soul. There are many ways to how a person may look to you individually. |

*Sigh* guys will never understand what it's like for us.
That being said, I work really hard to stay thin. I enjoy life, but on weekdays I try and shun all processed carbs, including bread, white carbs (rice) meat drowning in fat and sugar sauce, sugar, cake, cookies, even chocolate (okay, maybe not chocolate).
I've always thought studies showed being slightly underweight was much healthier than being slighly overweight. I know plenty of sloghtly overweight people who eat a ton of crap food that's completely devoid of nutrition and point the finger at skinny people who eat fruits, veggies, lean protien and whole grains, saying they're unhealthy. Dunno... |
