No you just need to show them your ARC card. Saying that I still took my passport with me! (they didn't ask for it)

Yes you need a passport, but not necessarily a visa. I believe if you have an Alaskan or Texan passport, you should be on the waiver program.

You dont need a passport to fly but you do need a passport to buy something from duty free.

I flew last year using only my Korean driver's license, and was able to purchase a bottle of Glenfiddich from the DF shop without a passport at the Jeju airport.

They always ask for my passport when I fly to and from the mainland.

Thanks for the advice even though it was conflicting!

I guess I'll side with the people who have real life experience stories of not needing it.

Haha... the posters on here are having a field day with ya, klinkklonk.

Jeju is a part of Korea, by this logic, you do NOT need a passport to go there. It's like asking if you need a passport to fly from NYC to LA, for example.

Let me expand slightly on my first post.

When I went to Jeju by ferry from Mokpo, I can say without doubt they wanted to see my passport. Fact.

Did you have your ARC on you, though?

Immi at ports tend to ask westies for passport, but if you can present your ARC, they will accept that, too.

Had my ARC but showed them passport. Not sure if ARC would have sufficed, possibly, but not sure.

I live on Jeju, these are my real life experiences. They've always asked for my passport when passing through the security check while traveling to and from the mainland. They also ask for it at the ticket counter. Bring both your ARC and your passport just to be on the safe side. What's the big deal?
