I am looking have use of a cell phone while in Korea and to be able to purchase prepaid minutes or have a calling plan. Which is ever cheaper. I need to know would I be better off buying the phone from t-mobile before I leave ( if so what type of phone would I need to ask the clerk for) or buying the phone when I arrive in Korea? I want to be able to use the phone when I go back to the US. P.S While using the Korean cell phone service I want to be able to call out of the country at an reasonable monthly plan if I decide to go that way or cheap per minute charge if I buy minutes.

What type of phone should I ask for? I gather one that will accept sim chip or whatever they use over there.

If you bring an American phone there, if it works, its going to be expensive in Korea. If you buy a phone in Korea, you won't be able to use it in America. You're kind of screwed if you want an international phone, as the large Korean companies have that market tied up tight. Buy a crap phone in Korea, use it, and that's that. Use your American phone elsewhere in the world and the US.

What do you mean it is going to be expensive if I bring an American phone to Korea? I thought the only thing needed is the proper phone and adding the sim chip from Korea.

So, I guess the cell companies such as, T-mobile and verizon are giving me a line when they say the phone could be unlocked in the US and the only thing that needs to be added when you arrive in Korea is the sim chip?

Here is a reason why you may want to buy the best mobile phone in Korea that you can buy. The following phone that I am talking about in this article I wrote costs over 600 Euros (If you buy it from a reseller located in Ireland who is into privacy stuff). The number one mobile phone in my estimation is the LIBERTY MOBILE PHONE. It does not have the GPS tracking chip in it that is required in all mobile phones sold in the United States and in Europe. This is true offshore asset protection in regards to protecting your asset of personal privacy.


I do not want any government that is out of control keeping tabs on where I am every minute of my life. They can do this through any phone that is purchased in the U.S. and in Europe because of the global positioning (GPS) device inserted by law into every phone.

I like this phone because my conversations remain private and my every move remains in my knowledge alone and I do not feel like I am being spied on. Since I am not doing anything wrong I like to know I am being rewarded for that by not being spied on by a government that is out of control.
