Sexless 10 Years Not Enough for Divorce Cause
By Park Si-soo, Korea Times (May 11, 2009)

A court rejected a divorce filing by a husband who never had sex with his wife during their 10 years of marriage, citing the wife's willingness to have normal sexual relations. The couple, married in May 1999, attempted to have sex early on in the marriage but failed for a variety of reasons. Since then, they maintained a sexless relationship, according to the filing to the Seoul Family Court....

Seriously, how do you fail at sex? Even bad sex is good sex.

Well, it said the wife was willing. That must mean the husband was unable to hold up his end. Boy, they must have really loved each other to last 10 years.

I kinda wish this story were different; say he could have actually gotten it up but the wife had refused for ten years. The resulting discussion would be much more interesting.

So how about: Is a sexless ten years enough grounds for divorce?

the story emerges once you read the full story and read between the lines.

the woman is the stereotypical Korean wannabe princess who was probably quite hot (in that "korean way") while younger.
We don't know if she has a real life libido, but we do know she has a voracious libidinous appetite for designer bags, perfumes, shoes and her fantasy growing up was all day shopping at up market Seoul dept stores.

She married an up and coming manager salary man and got her wish.

And he got his - having married a woman, all of his co-workers and friends thought very pretty.

Sex, even before marriage was a complete afterthought.
Now it is an after thought.

The salaryman, as his wife's looks fade, having already received his kudos, not getting them anymore.. now looks at his bills from her shopping, realized she probably isn't a good cook/homemaker and he's not getting laid.

He asks himself - how the F did I get myself into this situation?

She, on the other hand, having never exhibited a libido for anything other than shopping is perfectly content in life, and is of course more than willing and happy to submit herself to three inches for three minutes every three months in order to continue her life the way she's always imagined it to be.

Sounds to me like the man is f-ed.

The court "rejected" his filing for divorce? Wow, I didn't know that was possible in any country... so the state decides they stay together, so they stay together.

Weird. Confused

they don't have to technically "stay together".

but I think the guy will have difficulties avoiding paying her ongoing shopping bills.

if it were me, I'd quit my job and become jobless and homeless Very Happy

Wow, why wouldn't you just claim "Irreconcilable differences". Surely that would be preferable to having this out in public.

If he is stupid enough to put up with no good times for 10 years, he isn't smart. It's funny

once again, you miss the point about marriage in Korea (and some other places)

Marriage is for legally creating lots of hanguk saram and molding them into the Borg collective.

The man wants a trophy wife, merely eye candy he can show off to his friends and family. The woman wants a Shinsagae (spelling?) credit card with a high limit and an ability to frequently use it.

In this case, sounds like they both got what they want.

for sex - that's what anmas, certain noreabangs, room salons, barber shops and other places are for!

(which is yet another example of how the Korean consumer gets screwed over, if the guy has a healthy libido, consider the costs (at elevated Korean prices!) just to get laid.

Well, what if they tried to have sex, but the wife didn't want to touch, see, or look at "the wang". She just laid on her back with her eyes closed and waited for the husband just stick it on. No emotions, no movement.

I can see how that would be a major turnoff for the husband.

OR

The guy had problems getting it up. However, Viagara should easily solve that problem. I'd like to assume that what really happened is closer to the first scenario.
