Hello, so I finally get a contract to work in Korea wohoo...I really dont know when to celebrate. Now, when my passport is stamped, when im in korea or when I start working...maybe its all a gradual celebration by living the experience. Anyway!
Im being posted to Dangjin and am wanting to know how far it is from Seoul and any info would be good.

| It's near Seosan, about an hour and half from Seoul by bus. It's a bit out in the sticks though. |

I met a really nice canadian guy his wife and newborn who had been in dangjin for 2 or 3 years. As we drove to his apartment the city was small and low to the ground......... I asked him how many foreigners live there and he told me none we would like to meet..... apparently he and his wife were working in the public schools out there and had been paid very well.. Dangjin is not far from Asan and Cheonan -- also his apartment was new and quite nice. Looked to be a nice place to stay for a while if your plan was to stack money. Also I think the smaller the city you are in the more attention you get and the more opportunities come looking for you.

I was just assigned to an elementary school in Dangjin starting Monday, so there'll be two more foreign teachers there. A Korean friend of mine in Seoul told me that the city is currently developing and becoming more modernized. It's a port city, he tells me. I'm going to do a google search to find out more of the place. All the best!  |

Im quite a young guy at 23 years of age so I hope I dont get too bored.
It should be good for saving money I guess. I hear the people are nice too so thats another positive. I guess I can go to Seoul in the weekends. |

Dangjin is the armpit of Korea. I had a friend who lived there for a year and almost went insane. After visiting him once, I could see why.
The town: it is indeed a dock town, but not so much anymore. You can actually drive a car to the seawall. The city center itself just kind of ends before it becomes very rural. The people are actually not that nice at all. My friend had a farmer spit at him; that said, to be fair, we did chat up some girls later, but they turned out to just be some 19 year old highschoolers (one of them was at a college I think). That said, you should probably be prepared to masturbate quite a bit--even the prostitutes are mean.
The foreigners: there's like 20 of them, they all know each other, and they're all kind of frakkin weird. I'm saying don't hang out with them, but if you do, you probably won't want to get too close.
The upsides: You'll save a *beep*-ton of money. You'll have a massive apartment. You're only 1.5 hours from Seoul, really. Also, Dangjin grows hemp, and my friend was pretty sure he saw marijuana mixed in...if that's you're thing. |

Well its not like I want to go hang around in the city every night. I'll still be able to go to Seoul for the weekend and keep out of trouble during the week. Nice clean fresh air compared to dirty Seoul, bigger apartment, more money saved.
I can keep busy enough at home, learning korean, making music, doing my online design courses etc...
I live in an uneventful city as it is and im sure korea will be more interesting no matter where I am. |
