Update: Thanks to those of you who sent emails. Sorry about the Encar link (it won't let me link to the exact page), but the site is very easy to navigate if you can read Hangeul. Also, I had a friend take pictures of the car this morning and I can send them to you through email.
My car dealer sent over a used dealer to look at the car today. He said he would give me 800,000 for it. I asked him how much he would turn around and sell it for but he wouldn't give me a straight answer.
Going by the Encar site, I'm guessing he would sell it for at least 1.6 million won (that is simply a guess on my part). If that's the case I think the fair thing to do would be meet somewhere in the middle. The good thing about giving it to the dealer is that he would pick it up and handle all of the paperwork, and I wouldn't have to do a thing. If someone only wants to pay one million I don't know if the extra 200,000 won is worth the hassle.
I guess the best way to do this is ask for a minimum of 1.2 million. If you want, you can come look at it on Saturday around lunchtime at Konkuk University.
I'm buying a new car and need to get rid of a 1999 Daewoo Lanos in a hurry. The government is offering a big tax discount if you sell or scrap a car made before 2000. In order to receive my new car by the end of May, I have to sign the contract by next week.
I'm by no means a car guy, but I'll try to describe it as best I can. It is a white 4-door Lanos 1.3 with 105,840km on it. I bought it in June of 2007 from an American friend who had it for a couple of years before me. It has a few minor dings that you wouldn't notice unless you were standing next to it.
I had to replace the muffler last summer and had something minor in the engine repaired a few weeks ago (no clue what it was but it cost 40,000 won). I replaced the tires in early 2008 I believe. Last spring a scooter sideswiped me and I had that repaired as well. The oil has been changed and the car serviced regularly.
It has been a dependable car and I've driven around a good part of the peninsula in it. I checked the Encar site and there are three other cars like mine listed:
2.5 mil - 148,000km
1.8 mil - 108,000km
1.4 mil - 102,000km
Here's the link: http://www.encar.com/dc/dc_carsearchlist.do
My car isn't tricked out like a couple of those on the encar site. It is just a plain jane white 4-door.
If you are interested in the car, shoot me an email at [email protected].
I live in Seoul in the Konkuk University area (where line 2 and 7 intersect). You are welcome to drop by and have a look at it.
I'd like to get this done this week or by early next week at the latest. Transferring the title is fairly painless and can be done in an hour or so.
Make a decent offer and it's yours. If there aren't any reasonable offers in the next few days I'll just have a used dealer come pick it up. Thanks for reading. |
