Better to take it than to face an unlikely grilling by some Korean customs person.

I fly on about 5-6 domestic flights a year and have NEVER been asked for my passport. I just present them with my Alien card and there are no problems.

That being said, you might as well take it anyway.

I went on my honeymoon at Christmas. We phoned the immigration ofice AND the airline and were ASSURED that a passport was not required, however, it never hurts to bring it.

At the time my passport AND my ARC were in the hands of immigration as they processed my F2 Visa. I used my Expired AND cancelled Passport as an identification. The thing was clearly NOT valid with the large "cancelled" stamp on the main page, and it was cut on the first main pages.

No agent said a thing the entire trip ( i went through 8 of them)

So either Gimpo airport has such hack security that 8 people missed a clear guideline, the phone agenst AND immigration are wrong, then you DO NOT need a passport.

Let me expand slightly on my first post.

When I went to Jeju by ferry from Mokpo, I can say without doubt they wanted to see my passport. Fact.

I did the same trip 4 years ago, never was asked for my passport or any form of ID on the way there or back. I was however asked for it at the hospital when I ended up there with a dislocated shoulder - so better take it with you, you never know.

You could probably get by with just your ARC, but you had your passport to get to Korea in the first place. Is it that hard to bring it with you to the Airport, or did you lose it?

I flew and rented a car on Jeju with my ARC. Didn't bring the passport b/c I wasn't leaving Korea.

OP, bring a bottle of soju just in case you need to bribe the guy.

A long time ago on a trip to Jeju (1998), I was asked to show my passport, though I didn't have it with me. I did show them my ARC, but they were twitching for a few moments as they didn't know what they should do. I just stood there, taking it all in with a bit of bumusement at the wonders of the Korean bureaucrat, and a good deal of mirth. They did let me in, obviously.
