I recently booked a ticket to Malaysia for the summer vacation and am looking to go to Indonesia as well, but I am finding mixed information about obtaining an Indonesian visa. Some places say that you can get them on arrival and some say that you need to get one in advance (I'm American BTW). Does anybody know if you definitely can get a visa on arrival at the airport? This will make a big difference as to whether or not I go as it's difficult for me to get to the Embassy in Seoul during the week.
Also, I am thinking of just going to Bali for a few days, but does anyone recommend any other islands/beach resorts in Indonesia that might not be as developed but just as nice? |

I'm not sure, but I believe you can get the Visa on arrival at most airports.
My wife (American) and I (Canadian) landed in the Jakarta airport and picked up a visa on arrival there. It took about 3 minutes and the price differs depending on the length of your stay. I think we got a 30 day visa for $25 USD. There's a desk right before you get to immigration and you just pay them and they put the visa in your passport.
I'd be shocked if you couldn't get a visa on arrival in Bali. I'm pretty sure you can get on in Jogjakarta too (I was originally going to fly there).
We loved Indonesia. We did 2 days in Jakarta (1 in Bogor) and then 4 in Jogjakarta and then 5 in Bali. We really liked Bali (for the culture and beach) and Jogjakarta (for the temples). While Bali is pretty touristy, there are a wide range of places to stay as most of the island has beaches along it. I wouldn't recommend spending much or anytime in Jakarta. The rest of the country is much more interesting. |

VOA is US$25 for 30 days and US$15 for 7. The Indonesian embassy in KL is the best in the region and you can get a two month tourist visa there for around US$50, available same day if you get there before midday. |

You can get it when you arrive.
Just make sure your passport has more than 6 months left on it. Otherwise they'll want to "help you" (i.e. ask for a bribe). |
