| It was really disappointing. It was like a long sad boring overly dramatic version of the Mystery Men (Ben Stiller 1999) chalked full of blue naked man junk. |

The sex scene made me chuckle, the whole hallelujah and shooting flames...
Regarding the big blue codger that was jiggling about, is there some regulation that bigger than average blue *beep* is allowed, but giant blue *beep* is bad? When he is vaporising the Vietcong he has a giant loin cloth. Can't say I really liked the movie, but then again I didn't know any history behind it. |

|
|
I saw the Watchmen the weekend it came out and I was blown away by how good it was. It was amazing.
I had no idea it would be as good as it was. I was expecting your typical superhero flick with lots of action and special effects and a predictable good guy vs bad guy storyline. And the Watchman did have lots of action and special effects. But the Watchmen is no typical superhero flick. The Watchmen is much more artistic and dynamic, has much more depth and sophistication, and its storyline is totally unpredictable with an explosive ending.
If you haven't seen it, I highly recommend that you do.

| Okay, I haven't seen this movie yet but have been downloading the comics and reading them with CDisplay and so far it's really interesting but at the same time a little cheesy. For all of you who have read the comics, how close is the movie to the comics? |

| I watched Wolverine last night and in comparison, The Watchmen is a cinematic masterpiece. |

In the movie they drop some of the cheese and add some new cheese. The ending is quite a bit different, and arguably better. They drop some minor characters and the entire pirate comic storyline, though I've heard they plan on animating and including it in a closer-to-four-hours-long DVD release. |

Keep in mind that all the cheesiness in the comics is the same kind of cheesiness as watching the original Day the Earth Stood Still or any other classic that's been diluted by imitations. |

I thought it was a good faith effort by a fan (Snyder) to film something that everyone thought was unfilmable (including its creator, Moore).
The movie was good. I guess I'm really just so happy that they didnt wuss out on some of the more unsavory aspects.
The only thing that really surprised me was the greater amount of blood (the comic was bloody, but the violence was usually very subdued).
I'm one of those nerds who would happily buy and watch an extended DVD release that includes all the excerpts from 'Under the Hood' and 'Tales of the Black Freighter'.
To address some of the other posters:
Watchmen predates Mystery Men. Mystery Men was a comic interpretation of some Watchmen-esq ideas. Most modern comics and comic movies are.
Dr. Manhatten is naked because he has moved beyond the need to feel any modesty. When he was in Vietnam he was still in 'superhero' mode where he felt he should cover up (in all the flashbacks he has clothing to better fit in, but usually he just lets his boys out to breathe).
The movie might have seemed boring because it was not meant to be a traditional 'superhero' movie ala Spiderman or Batman. It's more of a drama, a moralistic train wreck, that was, unfortuntately, packaged in its trailers as more of a 'people in spandex hitting each other' type of movie.
I read the graphic novel when I was 10 and found it dull.
I read it again before I graduated high school and found it to be one of the best pieces of literature I've ever read.
The novel and, to a lesser extent, the film are intended as satire and they're supposed to make you feel uncomfortable (as likable as Rorshach is, he's a fascist, as likable as Ozymandias seems he's really a monster, Silk Spectre is a bit of a crybaby with mommy issues, Nite Owl is pretty much a loser in his alter ego and The Comedian was completely morally bankrupt and they are the 'heroes').
Anyway, that's my extended rant. |

Okay, I couldn't wait for the DVD so I downloaded a copy and watched it on my computer. I found a lot of it to be close to the comic except for the damned ending. I was so shocked with the comic book ending where Oz made a fake alien and teleported it to NY. I was severly disappointed with the movie ending where the Doc is used as a scapegoat. I thought Rorshach's character was the best though, absolutely awesome in a Travis Bickle sense.
I too look forward to the DVD release with Tales of the Black Freighter. The whole thing when finished will run over 4 hours. And it should come out in the fall. |

If you like Rorshach, should catch the JUSTICE LEAGUE UNLIMITED episodes with The Question in them- the basis for Rorshach. Now he's REALLY a Travis Bickle. I mean, what IS the sinister plot with those tips on shoe laces? What, indeed... |

I just checked the episode guide on wikipedia and there wasn't any mention of him. |
