Wasn't it Bush that said, "Bring them on"? |

My bet...
Obama knew this was coming, and his about-face a few days ago was a token show of disassociating himself from the release of the pictures.
"Yeah, this is gonna cause a lot of anti-American backlash, but hey, at least I tried to stop it." |

that is probably so. Obama has nothing to lose by blocking the photos. This doesn't rule out that he in fact did have a change of heart . |

If the photos aren't bad, then there's no reason not to release them.
If they are as bad as some people are saying, children being sodomized in front of their mothers and such, then they should be released for the same reason Eisenhower was right to make some German citizens walk through nearby concentration camps. |

Jeez, are you kidding? Comparing acts of Nazi genocide with what might be an isolated and unapproved instance of abuse? You Leftists like the ACLU and MoveOn spare no effort to defame the U.S. military, do you? And you don't give a damn what kind of fallout this might have.
O'Reilly calls this being a "pinhead" but that's too nice. Traitors comes to mind, and cowards.
Really, I want to pummel the person who released these photos. As for people with your sentiments, it says more about you than the vast majority of our (valiant) men and women in uniform. |

Most of the Germans who were forced to confront the attrocities of the camps had not had a direct hand in committing them. Rather, they'd allowed an environment to develop in which these things could take place.
Likewise, those voting Bush twice in a row, and supporting a clearly abhorrent administration while putting their heads in the sand when this issue was raised (which it often was) ought to be forced to confront attrocities in which they were in some form complicit. |

If this was isolated and unapproved, it's time for some legal action. If it wasn't isolated and unapproved, it's also time for some legal action. It's simply a question of who should be targetted.

Evidently the people gleefully tormenting others in the pictures didn't give a damn about the potential fallout.
If you want to blame someone, if you want to feel outrage against someone, perhaps you should look to the perpetrators, not the exposers. |

This is torture? I bet Danny Pearle would have loved to have this been the extent of his REAL torture. In case the leftist on this board don't remember, he was be-headed. |

Most Americans didn't know. They were feeling wealth from the housing boom. No housing boom = no Bush 2. |

They didn't know because they didn't care to know. |

Not to be pedantic, but wouldn't beheading be 'execution' rather than 'torture'?
I'm pretty sure Danny would have preferred anything(literally anything shor of death) to some maniacs cutting off his head. I don't see the relevancy in this thread though. |

I'm not comparing the sheer magnitude of the torture in Iraq to what happened in the Holocaust, but when you're an individual being tortured you're probably so busy thinking about your own immediate problems that your mind isn't on the other 5,999,999 or 59.
Releasing the photos wouldn't be defamation of the US military. Be realistic for a moment and consider the fact that the cat is already out of the bag. After all, you and I are discussing this on the "world wide web" where anyone in the world can read it. The world already knows the photos exist. So right now, we have two options. We can (1) hide the photos so the world interprets it as a tacit endorsement of what happened, or we can (2) find out which soldiers commited what crimes, who ordered them to carry them out, and punish the guilty individuals to show the world that the vast majority of our soldiers have high morals and the few bad apples who commit war crimes are singled out and punished severely.
Someday, you and Bill O'Reilly will figure out that it's easier to start wars than it is to win them. Actually showing up on the battlefield would be a good start. |
