I bought a HP Pavillion and thought it was decent.. alas.. 18 months later I realise I bought a pile of *^#**^#*
So, I want another PC and I don't want to spend more then 900,000 won..
So if you have one or can give me a hint on a good model I could look for at Yongsan or somewhere for that money, I would really appreciate your time and help
I am kind of interested in these new mini pc's too..
PM by all means.. |

You can buy a Thinkpad T60 on eBay used for around $400-500. They are great notebooks.
The batteries won't be good on them, so spend $100 on a new battery, maybe $50 on a RAM upgrade and you have a notebook computer that would easily perform on par with similarly priced NEW $1500 notebook computers.
Thinkpads are business class notebooks. You don't have to be fragile and delicate with these things. |

I have a black MacBook I am just about to post on here and on Facebook. It is just over a year old and very lightly used. Mainly used for emailing at cafes, as my wife and I use our iMac mostly.
The processor is an Intel Core 2 Duo, 2.2 GHz
I upgraded the RAM to the maximum of 3GB
And it has a 160GB Hard drive
It is ready to rock, and I will load it up with all of the software you specify.
900,000won, and it is all yours! |

You can buy a brand new laptop for 900,000. I recommend buying from Dell directly. You can transfer money to their account and configure your laptop with English OS, Ram, etc.
I have a Dell Laptop (bought in Singapore) and a Dell PC ( bought in Korea) and both are totally worth the money.
Both the PC and Laptop were around 1million won when I bought. So you should be able to get a new laptop for 900,000 easily. |

Yeah, what is wrong with your HP? Lots of things on computers are easy to fix. The biggest problem with 80-90% of all computers is that they have Windows on them. The first step to getting rid of that is looking into Linux (particularly Ubuntu) or Mac. I prefer Linux because it's free, infinitely customizable, and the community is huge and helpful with any problems you have.
If you prefer to get a new computer (specifically a netbook), go to dell's website like that other guy said. The instructions there seem pretty painless. Or, there's a Thinkpad being sold on here for W150,000, I think. I currently have an eee PC and don't think I'll ever buy a different brand, though idk the process for getting one to Korea, etc.
As far as brands go, Sony is great, Thinkpads are quality, eee or Asus netbooks are good, Dell's been making a comeback since it realized that selling crappy products at crappy prices is no way to do business. I've always had a Compaq or eee laptop, and HP desktop. I have loyalty for HP/Compaq, though most people don't say much about them. They certainly aren't bad, I think they're one of the best for their price-point.
Remember, if you get a Korean OS you can always get Linux, or get an non-legit copy of Windoze or OS X from piratebay, mininova, or any number of torrent sites. |

@itkingdom, I am intrigued. Please PM me with your email address, as I cannot yet. And, there is no discoloration on the trackpad, that is the reflection on the protective film I put on it. This MacBook is absolutely pristine in every way. |

I'm really curious about the HP problems...
I've had an HP DV2000 for three years, and it's still going strong. I am sooo tempted to upgrade, but I really don't need to yet. I noticed a slew of newer HP Pavilions recently being sold as refurbished by HP and several US computer stores online, and am wondering why. I know of one series that had bad GForce video cards about 6 months ago. Many of these have AMD chips, though. I'm really curious what the issue was, because if it was fixed, you can get one heck of a good price on a refurb in the USA right now. Problem is, I don't want to buy a Vista machine right now (on the eve of Windows 7), much less a refurb that may/may not actually be fixed. I don't like the idea of bringing something here, having problems, then being told by HP Korea that they won't honor my warranty because I bought it in the USA. |

18months later? Seems like it did fine for a while and was time for an upgrade anyways. |

Well, it started to freeze up when it was playing media files. Then it developed this problem where is doesn't start up.. all the lights are on and fans running but it's not booting up... black screen etc
I read that there is some fault where when Idle, the power messes with the motherboard. To be honest, I don't think I have looked after as well as I should... I filled up the full 140gb, often let it get really hot and ran it for days.. but, I know the hard disk is still good.
So, I took it to a repair man and he got it running, but it went again after being used three times. Anyhow, it's in a box waiting to go back to the repair shop.
It's kind of my lifeline, I use it for Skype.. entertainment etc.. I have nothing else to look at. Even a DVD player a friend lent me just broke. haha
Any ideas on the fault?? |

What is the exact model number, and specs on CPU and video card? Is it an NVidia 8000 series graphics processor? HP wasn't the only maker with problems.
Some were even covered by warranty, if memory serves. Your best bet is to contact HP about your issue and see if it will be replaced or not.
See this link: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&docname=c01514044
Also, read the following (warranty link doesn't work below):

(((IT LOOKS LIKE Nvidia was being a little economical with the truth about the defective chips fiasco. The latest deviation from the official line comes once again from HP.
If you recall, Nvidia said in its 8-K that it may affect other parts as well. HP just sent out a bulletin, reprinted below with customer names removed, that linked to the following page. For those keeping track, the bulletin concerns 38 models of HP Pavilion Slimline desktops, and at least some use the 6150LE chipset. (Please excuse Nvidia's term 'motherboard GPU', search and replace with 'integrated graphics'.) Looks like we can add another part to the defective chipset list.
Do, however, note that this is not a laptop, nor is this chipset a laptop chipset. This pretty much answers the open question of whether or not the defects would be found in other parts, but any credibility they had as an authoritative source this matter is long gone. Recall, they said: "However, we are continuing to test and otherwise investigate other products. There can be no assurance that we will not discover defects in other MCP or GPU products. "
We can't wait to hear the spin on this one.
Laptops only, my behind. HP only, my behind. Small batch, my behind. Under control, my behind. What will be next?
