I will be moving to Korea this fall with my boyfriend and we are concerned about the availability of birth control, considering the conservative nature of the country. We will have health insurance, but I have no idea what options are available to women. Anyone have any input? |

it's really simple to get birth control.
go into any pharmacy labeled 약 and ask for it.
no insurance or prescriptions~
it's called 피임약 or pee eem yak - i'm really bad with romanticizing Korean.
basically the letter p for 피, the letter e with m sound attached for 임. |

Just to add...The pill is very cheap. I buy the most expensive brand (I think) and it's still 10 or 12 thousand won. |

Very easy to get. Like others said, just walk into any pharmacy (there's one on every corner) and ask for it. I use Mercilon, costs me 6,000 won per pack. |

yes, she is. birth control pills are available over the counter at any pharmacy.
she didn't really go to the doctor because she is not married. she is too scared/embarrassed. tell her to woman up and accompany her to the clinic/pharmacy and have her DEMAND birth control, no ifs ands or buts. she may get a dirty look but she is a big girl now and will have to deal with it. |

If you're on the pill now, take one of your boxes/sets/packs/packages/etc into a pharmacy in Korea and ask if they have something similar. Don't go to one near where you work and/or live. If you're near Seoul, there is a pharmacy in COEX mall with a pharmacist who speaks a little English. They may not have the exact brand you have, but should have something with a similar dosage.
Like others have said before, it's pretty cheap and very easy to get. |

What about ECP (Emergency Contraception Pills) such as Plan B? Are they available in Korea over-the-counter? Has anyone bought some without a prescription? |
