Hmmm.. Now that I actually count 'em up it's a little more than 5.
orange box, skate, overlord (new), DOA extreme 2, tomb raider legends, saints row, tony hawks project 8, burnout paradise, ghost recon, everyparty, kameo, bulletwitch (jap), blue dragon
I'm located in Busan. I've shipped and recieved a lot of games here on Daves and it's a pretty painless process. |

There is no difference. They're the same region. The (japan) and (asia) tags represent the places where they are sold. |

Bottom line: While they may be different they both work when you put them in a Korean XBOX 360.
You see the markets between "Japan" and "Asia" are different marketing wise. Games aren't normally translated into every langauge in Aisa. Games are often left untranslated as either Japanese or English with a instruction manual written up in the local language. That's why when you buy a game here, more often than not it's still in Japanese or in English: EX: GTA IV.
Japan is the second, or some argue, the biggest market for games, so all of their games, more often than not are either made in Japan or translated to Japanese. So it get its own status.
The "asia" market is a collection of smaller countries that can't be considered their own market. A couple of things happen here: one most of the games that is released in this market are not translated in the local language. (Tell me how many "Korean language" videogames have you found?) That's why more often than not, (Nintendo games are a notable exception) games here are either in English or Japanese.
But while the markets are different the region coding is the same for all NSTC:J games. A NSTC: J in Japan will work just as well as a NSTC: J game from Asia. As far as I know there are three region codes for the XBOX360. NSTC: NA (North America) NSTC: PAL (Europe) and NSTC: J which is Asia. Correct me if I'm wrong.
LONG STORY SHORT: If a game has NSTC: J on it IT WILL WORK ON A KOREAN XBOX 360. |

i don't have a korean xbox -- hence why i am asking if they are region free. if they are, i'd like to take some of these games off the op's hands.
if you look at play-asia, you'll see that some ntsc-j games are designated as ntsc-j (japan) and some are noted as ntsc-j (asia). sometimes, a game that's ntsc-j (asia) will be coded region free.
for example, left 4 dead:
http://www.play-asia.com/paOS-13-71-br-49-en-70-34kg.html
http://www.play-asia.com/paOS-13-71-dw-49-en-70-2zsg.html
i took a chance and bought one at coex mall -- it ended up being region free. |

Ahh I see your problem. Region codes on the 360 are left up to the developers to decide. Which is a pain in the ass if you're living in an area of the world with a XBOX in the wrong region code. I had the same problem prior to my first XBOX breaking. Since then I got a K-XBOX and it seems to have solved all of the problems.
To straighten things up:
PAL works with PAL 100%
Asia works with Asia 100%
NA works with NA 100%
Playaisa is a good guiode to go by, most big releases these days are region free. It depends on the company:
As far as I know Ubisoft, Rockstar, Tecmo among others are strict here.
Where as anything published by Microsoft is going to be region free. It's a crapshoot over here if a game bougth here is going to work on a PAL or NA 360. If you look at the cover of a game there should be a tiny white bar in the corner with "NSTC" in it. This is the television region code: Now bsides the "NSTC" box there are four possible outcomes.
NSTC:N/A (North America)
NSTC:PAL (Europe)
NSTC:J (Asia)
NSTC (Region free)
Now to confuse the *beep* out of people some games like GTAIV span multiple regions. My copy of GTAIV Reads NSTC: PAL but it works on my Korean 360. But the NA release of GTAIV will only work on NA systems. Bottom line: playaisa is a good site to go to if you are confused about what regions games are. |
