Hey, whats up? I've been working part-time at a kindy hagwon, and I'm having a lot of trouble with one of my classes. It's a pre-K class of 4 year olds. They know pretty much nothing, a few letters, colors, and a few animals. As they are 4, they don't have much of an attention span either.
I really don't know what to do! My other classes go great, because the kids know some English and I can play some games using that knowledge.
I guess what I would like are some ideas for games. Really simple ones. There are two that I tried today that worked well: Simply asking the kids to go touch a color somewhere in the classroom, and laying out letters on the floor and having the kids find them.
Any other ideas? It'd really help! Thanks |

Look for posts by "Tomato" for how to handle young kids.
Good luck. |

Lots and lots of songs . Pick simple ones that you can use hand motions with. Then use the vocabulary from the songs and a few flash cards to teach them some new words. Also, any game that has physical activity is usually good, work on verbs by making them do the verb. If they're Korean age 4 they are barely able to speak in Korean, let alone English. Your goal should be to associate the English words with an action or a picture. Give them a few months and they'll be talking . Just think of how children learn language naturally. I miss my four year olds! |
