OK...
The sentence
"I like to run."
sounds fine to me and I am sure is fine grammar.
The sentence
"I dislike to run."
hurts my ears and I have no idea why.
I would say
"I dislike running."
Is "I dislike to run." bad grammer or good grammar? Why?

Some verbs can be followed by infinitives, some can be followed by gerunds, some can be followed by both.
Dislike is gerund only.
I dislike running.
Like is both.
I like running, I like to run
Want is infinitive only
I want to run
Most grammar texts will have a big list. Something students just have to memorize. |
