|

I am currently working in a small rural town in Gangwon-Do. I am keen to stay in Korea for another year once my current EPIK contract expires on Aug 31st.
I emailed the POE for Gangwon and was told that you dont 'ask' to re-sign, your school will complete an evaluation on you not more than 2 months before your contract ends. So = end of June. Knowing that I have the extra 2 weeks vacation time and school is only closed for 4.5 weeks my vacation will be almost all of the school vacation. Bust she said that the evaluation committee review and then decide if you can re-sign. So when exactly can I book my ticket if I will be on vacation around the 18th July?
My contract says that if you are renewing a return ticket is paid. Now - when I came to Korea in Aug 2008 my one-way ticket could not exceed 1.3 mil. Is there a maximum amount on the return ticket as I will be booking it so last minute it will be expensive.
I do not want to stay in the same area and am considering moving within Gangwon-Do. My ideal choices are Sokcho and possibly Chuncheon. I asked the POE how likely I am to get either of these and what will happen if there are not positions there. The response was that they try to accomodate requests but do not guarantee. So my question, once again went un-answered.
I am hoping those who have re-signed before can shed any light on this whole situation. Particularly with the moving to a different location within the same province. Has anyone asked to move and then been shoved somewhere totally different?
It seems Gangwon is very behind with this procedure as friends in other cities have new contracts already and have been told to book flights and etc etc. |

| I got my re-signing form today. My co-teacher also got the evaluation form that my school needs to fill in. |

From what I understand, anyone who's put in a year already, particularly at a rural public school, gets first choice of location if they decide to stay. Of course they can't guarantee it but you should be able to get one of your top three choices. After all, newbies aren't assigned a school until orientation, whereas you should be sorted out before then as teachers in your desired districts give a firm yes or no.
I wish my Gangwon school would drag its feet more. They're nagging me already and I thought I had another six weeks before I had to make a decision. |
