Goddammit!..........my coworker who is six months in is heading into her know-it-all phase.....

She has just discovered the blogs and the news sites that allow her to be an "expert" in Korea and its problems and culture and so on.....

If I have to hear one more f-ing word about confucianism or how english teachers are oppressed i am gonna blow my f-ing top!

Sorry, no point, just have to vent.....this must be what it is like to have an awful teenage child who thinks they know what they are talking out when really the dont have a god damned idea.

Somebody, back me up. You know what I am talking about.......please.....AHHHHHHHHHHHHH

I am not sure how sulper your thinking is, or whether or not your Korean, but It really doesn't take long to figure out that some things in K-land are a little off-center. In fact, it's just plain obvious.

No country is without it's problems. She's adjusting and it is quite an a task at times.

I dunno, even that sounds like it might be preferable to those fresh out of college eslers I encounter that somehow know more about: education, the business world, the real world, anything else than I do.

Yeah these kids got it all figured out, they'll lay out their 'Dead Poet's Society' teaching approach or explain to me how things really work in the office. Rolling Eyes

It's a sign that I'm getting old, I guess. Smile

A lot of times the two groups were one in the same.

I always thought it funny when one guy in our office was going to find a way to "effect change" in the teaching methods of a 200+ employee hagwon chain.

I've seen it happen countless times. Yes, the early to mid-20s women who go through this phase are by far the most annoying. This is probably because they're not only an expert on a culture they know nothing about, but the real world in general which they know nothing about.

And, just wait until the next newbie arrives. A chance for her to display her expertise (Have you tried soju? Have you tried a soju bomb? No, I can't speak it, but the language is so easy to read! It's phonetic you know...) ad nauseam.

Why don't you kindly introduce her to this site, starting with this thread. Leave it up on the staffroom computer. That'll learn her, quick.

More a case of something we were happy to leave behind suddenly reappearing. And yes, before the misogynist boogy man jumps out there are plenty of young female rookies who aren't know-it-alls.

To be honest some young men can be very obnoxious, too, but more often in a know-nothing sense. I mean the type you'd find at the Thunderman in Daegu on a Saturday night.

With my extensive knowledge base on my hard drive based on volumnes of this forum, blogs, and limited experience, I too am a newbie Mr. Knowitall, but not arrogant nor trying to get one up on you. Wink

Maybe those girls you don't like are saying, "We're not happy here," so they cop this snobby attitude. I'm finding the women to dislike Korea even more than the guys due to the culture treating women as being something less than men. The girls stay with girls and the boys with the boys in total segregation. Smart girls run off to Europe to teach where it's a free thinking liberal culture. Wink

It wasn't that long ago that michealambling was calling other people noobs while in his first month in Korea. Laughing

Now that he's been married for two weeks, I'm sure he'll be giving out married guy advice soon enough. And in about seven months, I'm sure he'll been telling us parenting advice. Very Happy

This thread is hilarious.

I worked with a guy like this once. He knew everything because he read Lonely Planet on the plane ride here.
