I've been researching alternative certification procedures in a few states. Texas, California, and Florida seem like they might be simple and inexpensive places to go for this. Ohio's program looks like a very expensive pain in the butt. Has anyone else looked into this? Has anyone done this?

Too late for this year, but something to keep in mind? Get paid for it.

That was exactly the sort of link that I was looking for. Keep 'em coming if you got 'em. Next spring, I'll make some applications, and see where I land!

There are many of these programs, but I think Texas sounds the easiest and cheapest, although I believe you're on your own if you want a master's degree. Check out http://www.teach-now.org/ for a searchable database of programs by state, city, grade or subject.

In Texas you can be "emergency certified" in a few subjects. You get paid a first year teacher's salary, and have to pay for the classes to get certified yourself (ex-wife did this). They will only generally do this in subjects like science, math, and sped. If it is another subject, you know someone there, or you are in a bad school district (HISD, AISD, DISD, FWISD) Good luck

I nearly completed a nursing degree, got my BA in Psychology, an MSA in Human Resources, and then in an attempt to change careers, got an AAS in Mortuary Science. Teaching Biology and Health Science subjects would not be out of my league...had a lot of Chemistry too, but I'd rather not revisit that, too much math!
