Cat Power's You are Free album is a delicious bummer. Here's 'i don't blame you...' great song. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cdQz9ghg_sk

These are my favorites of CP. Cat Power's 'Make Me Feel So Bad'. Also, Cat Power's 'Time Is The Great Healer'.

What do you think, blurgalurgalurga?

Yeah, those are good...her 'Wonderwall' cover is awesome too. Much better than the Oasis one.

Also I've been listening to this woman lately, some of her stuff at least--here's Gillian Welch, singing about a dead Elvis.

You know the song Susan Boyle sang, "I Dreamed a Dream"? If you really listen to the lyrics, it is about as sad as a beautiful song can be.

This version has the lyrics:

Elliot Smith--Either/Or album. It's the only album I ever bought from him. If I was the type of person to get depressed often I would get the other releases. Perhaps listening to that much Elliot Smith would cause me to be the type of person that get depressed alot. This is not sunny day music. And who the hell kills themselves with a sword unless they are a Shogun warrior or something of the sort.

Here's a song from the album,

Yes--Close to the Edge album
It's a good album to reflect about life. I always listen to it when I'm trying to cope with change.
Here's a video of some kid singing a song from the album. He's my new hero.

I think from now on when I am sad I will forever listen to Msavage59. I can't help but smile. On this one I think he sees a ghost to his right about 1:30 into the video.

Yes. Very Happy I could (and have) listen to him all day.

so many for me, BB... music moves me a great deal. When I am sad I actually play the piano or sing to make myself even sadder.. sigh..

Yes. In fact on those occasions I have been acutely sad, I couldn't bear to listen to music at all.

I

play or sing:

~Funeral March by Chopin, especially the middle section
~Moonlight Sonata by Beethoven - I play the whole thing to get my anger out with the last movement (if I am sad AND angry)
~La Berceaux by Faure

and some Debussy pieces, too.

Yes, I play Debussy when I'm feeling a little meloncholy. I usually feel excited rather than sad when I play the Moonlight Sonata, though.

My favourite Beethoven to feel sad to is the 2nd movement of his Emperor Concerto. [I confess I like it played slightly slower than this example].

I listen to this Elgar's Cello Concerto, too.. here's Jacqueline Du Pre's version. What a great cellist.. too bad she died so young.

Yes, I did listen her an awful lot for a few months about 10 years ago. You just inspired me to play her again.

I play this, too.. what a great piece:

An even better interpretation.

Definitely makes me sadder than ever playing it.

Thanks for these links. Smile
