So yesterday (Friday) afternoon, I open my laptop during break, and there's water on the keys near the right side of the keyboard, and condensation on the screen.

No signs of a spill on top of the computer. It would be impossible for a spill to get water in there.

So, I have to replace the top case of my MacBook.

My question is... how should I handle this? I am 100% sure it wasn't an accident, and I have an idea of who it might have been (this coworker who doesn't like me). I don't want to falsely accuse someone, and it's probably worthless to accuse anyone anyway, since there is no way to prove it... no cameras in the teacher's room.

We got into a spat 2 weeks ago because she poorly planned an art class that ran into my break. All teachers were in a big room doing the project with the kids. No problem. It's only 10 minutes anyway, but I had the shits bigtime and I had to run to empty my ass.

She got super pissed at me and told me that I don't care about the kids, and that I spend too much time on my computer (on breaks). I told her that when she is my boss, she can worry about this stuff, but in the meantime, she should mind her own business.

This is why I am suspicious of her. She's Chinese, not a 'foreigner', and she's got this idea in her head that she's at a higher position than us pesky foreign teachers... meaning those of us who don't butcher grammar in the kid's homework assignments. My thoughts on her could have their own thread.

Jeez I've got so much crap for this avatar. Fine. I'll change it.

So yeah I'm stuck using an external keyboard. And I'm going to bring it to school with me too, just to spite the idiot who did this to me.

ppcg4 - If you suspect it was her, I would non-chalauntly say to her " I think someone poured water on my laptop the other day" while looking her straight in the eyes. Just make it sound fairly casual. Let her know that you know it may have been her. See how she reacts at that moment.

I believe you will know the truth in an instant.

By the way, you should be pissed about this. You may want to consider letting everyone that could have done this know that you are angry. Don't take a nutty, but express it in a half professional manner. That's just outright disrespectfull.

This reminds me of a dog or cat that's upset and then goes to the bathroom on your wonderful Persian carpet. That really sucks........
She seems so vindictive if that's true.

You could say this: "Gee, someone poured some water on computer if you have any idea who would have done such a thing, let me know".

I can't imagine someone would be so disrespectful as to purposefully pour water on a computer. Perhaps I'm naive, but I just don't think that's plausible. Sorry to hear about the issues with your co-worker, though.

Moral of the story: Don't bring anything valuable to work. Thanks to OP for illustrating this important piece of advice.
