It's official. I'm actually in quarantine right now with a dozen plus other english teachers for coming into contact with the fifth case last week. It's quite a hoot, but the facilities are very nice, and so far treatment has been okay. Ironically, it's a no smoking facility. Gov't dude told us a 9 day quarantine not an hour ago so it'll probably get old very fast.
What a fun time to be in Korea! |

Some 30+ of us were training together in Seoul, and were potentially exposed. If you weren't training this last week in Seoul then you've got probably very little to worry about.
Even those of us that are now quarantined are in good spirits. More of an unpaid inconvenience than anything else. |

Good blog Nice to see you're still in high spirits, and in years to come you'll be able to regale the kids about the time that daddy "darn near caught that damned pig flu in Korea". Fun times!
Seriously though, hope you guys are all well and that this blows over within the 9 day period. Fighting! |

The blog is a good read. I can somewhat relate to it. On May 4th I flew into the country from Thailand and was sick with some sort of cold and also a hernia. All together not a pleasant condition for traveling. The cold was rather mild but had developed into a nasty cough.
I went to the hospital and of course pig flu was the only thing on any ones mind. I protested saying I only wanted to make an appointment for the hernia but that fell on deaf ears and I too found myself being quarantined. Mine only lasted maybe two hours.
I was first placed in a what I assume was a smokers lounge. It was near the ER entrance and contained a chair and a cigarette butt covered gurney. I spent only a few minutes in this room. I'm not quite sure if I was moved because I was still in too close proximity to others or if someone decided I should be somewhere a little more sanitary.
They next moved me to a van in the parking lot. In the van a doctor would appear every fifteen minutes or so and perform some sort of test. The most painful one being some over sized Q-Tip that totally violated my nasal cavities. That still hurts to think about.
Eventually it was decided that I was not carrying the pig flu and I was escorted back into the hospital. Once in the hospital they asked what I wanted and repeated that I have a hernia I would like to make an appointment for. They explained that it was not an Emergency condition and I shouldn't be in the ER. I agreed and eventually was given an appointment. I have a thread somewhere else about that.
Two hours is pretty much nothing compared to nine days but tomorrow I will go in for five days. So to get to my point I was thinking perhaps some of you could offer me advice on what I should bring with me for my hospital stay.
Thanks,
Burrito. |
