Sickening, innit?
The stuff [Mod Edit] spewed on this board never ceases to be absolutely mind numbing at times. |

Geez, Korean politics are no more corrupt than the US or any other nation. You guys act like Korea invented the notion of being corrupt. I hate to see this for Korea. It's obviously a huge black mark in how their nation is perceived. Not every day a president kills himself. |
President LMB killed himself? I thought it was EX-President Roh that committed suicide? You are right though, not every day a President kills himself. A former President either. |

Can you be specific about the "digs" to which you refer? I'm just wondering because the "digs" I see have to do with corruption in the government and the acceptableness of suicide. A guy killed himself who was being investigated for corruption while serving in the government. Seems relevant to discuss the issues of suicide and corruption to me. If there were a thread about a shooting in the States, people would certainly talk about the gun culture in the States and not just focus on the poor victims, and rightly so. These things don't happen in a vacuum. |

You are completely right. I am so sorry. There should be more jokes about him having Mad Cow Disease and about his "monkey face"(many have been deleted by the mods). How dare I spoil the mighty ESL teachers' self-righteous image. |

Huh? I did not defend mad cow craziness talk or monkey face stuff. I defended the idea that discussing some cultural aspects that are related to this event (government corruption and suicide) seems reasonable.
Also, your examples are not of people taking "digs at a culture." They are irreverent insults toward Roh. I don't think they belong here either and I would not defend those. |

Grumpy, he thought you were referring to his post as he did not see the post that was removed. Please report such things when you see them next time. Most EFL teachers are decent, and they're the kind that will report such stuff.
Have a good day,
'Rico

Perhaps, but I don't see why that warrants a purely sarcastic response to my honest question about what "digs on a culture" were being referred to. |

Perhaps a thread about suicide makes people a little sensitive? |

As I understand it, Korea is in a state of mourning and people should show some respect. Imagine how Americans would feel if some folks partied in 1963 in some country when Kennedy was assasinated. Even the opponents of the former president are trying to have a certain kind of etiquette about things. I guess, Grumpy blew a fuse, because he thinks there are too many insensitive people out there. I agree. This shouldn't be mistaken for glorifying his presidential record. I am an ESL teacher, and I give my condolences to a country in a state of mourning and so many of my other fellow teachers.

Buddhist monks mourn for deceased former President Roh Moo-hyun at his hometown Bonghwa village in Gimhae, about 450 km southeast of Seoul, Sunday. |

As I predicted, the senior prosecutor has expressed "deep regret" and offered to resign. Resign for a job well done?!
The weakness of it all....how does this country have any credibility among nations? Man up, you p*****s. |

I've been wondering why Noh's best bud spilled the beans on giving him cash... and now I heard why. Wait until next week - this thing could really blow up. |

Also, I heard they let his already tried and convicted brother out of jail who had been sentenced to four years. What a great message this sends to the people of Korea. If you commit suicide, prosecuters will stop their investigation of your family, guilty family members will be released from jail, and peolple will suddenly talk about you like you're some kind of martyr. Good luck lowering the suicide rate here now. |
