so been here a while now and never done the DMZ tour - for various reasons - did a google search and seems there are different areas to visit - I thought there was only one for tourists?
so what's the best place to go? recommended times? does it matter if I'm American?
please do share! I can take video, right? |

I've been 4 times, twice with USO, twice with private firms.
I'd recommend USO, its cheap and you should get to go into the JSA at Panmunjom which for me is the highlight of the trip, its the bit you see on all the pictures with the guards staring at each other.
Just remember though, the people showing you around are American soldiers for the most part so I always took anything NK-related that they said with a pinch of salt. They give you the best military-related info though, and on the last trip I was on (in March) they were quite relaxed about us taking photos/videos.
Other sights worth seeing on a tour are the 3rd infiltration tunnel, and the Dora observatory.
I think the other tours into NK have been suspended, I know that the Kumgunsan trips are not running, and I think the Kaesong city tours have been stopped now too.
Enjoy! |

the USO does not allow people holding Korean Passports to go.
Does anybody know another tour group to go with that will allow Korean citizens to visit? |

Last summer I went to the DMZ, but didn't cross into it, from the Sokcho area. I noticed a sign that said something about a dress code. |

Can't you go to the DMZ without an organized tour? Or do you need to go with a group? |

I just went on the Adventure Korea tour. I guess the itinerary is pretty much the same as USO but you don't go to Panmunjom. You go to Imgujak, lunch, 3rd tunnel, Dora Observatory and Dorasan train station. It was interesting, I liked it but each place had about 15 minutes worth of stuff to do and an hour of standing around. It was 41,000 won. |

I went with the USO and loved it. I was lucky enough to meet up with a good group and had a blast with them.
Cute girlfriend not included, but hopefully you will find |

USO is the best tour. Don't waste your money on a tour that won't bring you to the Joint Security Area (JSA)! |
