I can't seem to find the exact information that I'm looking for on the KAL site. Does anyone know what Korean Air charges for a THIRD checked bag on a flight to the US? I see their 50,000KRW fee for being over the baggage weight limit. Is it also 50,000KRW for an extra bag? If you've checked three bags with KAL I'd appreciate your help. If not, I'll try calling KAL again (sigh...). |

It's 50,000 won per extra kilo of weight....at least that is what I was informed by the Korean Air Customer Helpdesk in the UK before I flew here. I would imagine you would get charged that for every kilo your third bag weighs and perhaps another extortionate fee due to it being a third bag.
If this is the case....and I can't put my hand on my heart and swear to it being the gospel truth....then I would start looking around for companies that will send your third bag home on a freighter. |

Youch! $40 bucks a kilo or 2.2 measly pounds. Oooch, that's cruelty at the check in counter. We've been warned. An extra 20 kilos would cost $800 bucks! That's as much as it costs to fly a person with 40kg in 2 check on bags and a heavy out of regulation carry-on to or from America. What's with these airlines not allowing us to take everything including the kitchen sink? |

climber are you a frequent flyer with KAL? I am and they let me take big amounts of luggage between here and the UK (around 40kg), no quibbles, no fees . That's why I fly them and not cheaper airlines, it's worth it when I factor in excess luggage charges that eg Lufthansa charge.
Call them up, tell them you will join their frequent flyer scheme if you haven't done so and see what they say. I thought they worried about weight, not amount of bags checked. FYI I've seen many Koreans check in more than 2 bags at times, although they might have been flying a higher class than economy. |
